The Sun are about 3 months to late with their campaign. The Mirror got theirs running 3 months ago and Quentin Wilson handed-in the first petition of 2.5 million names last week.

The oil producers will lose-out in the end as more people switch to walking rather than driving to take their kids to school or shopping. The last time prices hit £1.36p p/l, sales dropped 31% so the oil producers had no choice but to drop the price.

I won't get involved in the 'climate change debate', but will just say that for the cost of 1 nuclear reactor capable of supplying 5% of our energy needs, we can build enough wave-energy generators to provide 25% of our needs.
    Never Knowingly Understood.

Dream on, I don't see the number of cars on the roads near me dropping at all.
Would be nice if it happened though :)

I like how "climate change" is always the excuse. Councils turn off street lighting, they say "to reduce Co2 emissions". To reduce emissions my !!!!!, more like save money to fund councillors extortionate wages.

Whilst conveniently keeping up the whole "green" appearance for the benefit of the people with no brains.

One of the worst things we are doing is consuming natural resources which are already in high demand (metal theft is a huge problem right now)... And you think building 1000's of tidal generators is going to help?

Our consumption of resources is a much bigger threat to this planet and yet EVERYTHING is geared toward consumerism (eg cars designed to last 3 years instead of 20 years)...... Hmmmm, I think I see the problem.

    Pure laziness would suggest otherwise.
Like you, I have seen no drop in traffic. No wonder this country is getting so fat. People would drive a mile or two rather than walk.

I would have no problem at all if they did use climate change as an underhand way to save money but you are so right about where the savings would go:mad:

LONDON (Reuters) - Premier Oil said a tax hike on oil producers unveiled in Wednesday's budget will have minimal impact and could aid the company's own acquisition plans by making North Sea oil assets cheaper.
"We're sat on $1.1 billion (679 million pounds) worth of UK corporation tax allowances which means that over the next few years at least, we would not have been paying cash UK taxes at all," said Chief Executive Simon Lockett in an interview on Thursday.
The UK government upped a supplementary tax on oil producers to 32 percent from 20 percent on Wednesday, in a surprise move which Lockett said could help Premier's acquisition prospects in the North Sea.

If we reduce petrol to the american price, would you rather pay the tax elsewhere, or would you like their healthcare and retirement plans too. I assume you're also happy to increase the pay of all our councillors, MP's etc to a similar level to theirs as well?

News reports on tax evasion show that as much money is lost through tax evasion as fuel duty rakes in. My suggestion, enforce the taxation already there by law.
