I'm keen for Amanda to go through with this process if she wants to. If somebody could outline the costs, would anyone else be prepared to chip in 10 pounds to see if we can get some form of justice? I will.

KiddyGuy and Hollydays - whilst I am touched by your generosity and thank you for the offer, I am unwilling to take money from anybody else for this matter.
  • I think for £150 claim its only £30.

I believe that's true but have been told that I would need to travel to Wiltshire to the court (probably another £30 in petrol) plus take time off work. Whilst I would be awarded costs if I won as I doubt if he has any assets my understanding is that it is unlikely that I'll get anything back so think I will just be throwing more money away. I am gutted that he will get away with it, and am aware that he may go on to scam someone else, but really don't want to waste moere money on a system that seems, yet again, to protect.

As an aside, was really interested to read a previous post about the police calling round for a £12 ebay transaction - obviously I was scammed in the wrong county lol!

What goes around comes around and if you do not get anywhere with it ,although you have made quite a loss just remember that he will get his just comeuppance(how on earth do you spell that..i know, "not like that!). Anyway he will get his and Amanda you sound a really nice person and although you have been ripped off im sure & hope that other aspects in your life give you rewards as you seem a nice person(especially as you wont accept any of our offered cash!) . So dont let it get to you too much.(i know its easy for me to say)

    You did spell “comeuppance” correctly.

    Well done.:D

A tip for uncertain spellers. Compose your posts in Word which will highlight spelling errors and then when it is correct, cut and paste it into MSE.
  • I do feel for you I've now been diddled twice through eBay, although I still use it (over 400 transaction 100% rating).

1st was the biggest, I was selling some av equipment and somebody bought it £150 BIN, great I thought, he paid through paypal so I had the money in my hand !! Sent the goods out next day as I always do.

First whiff of a problem was an email from somebody asking if I had the buyers email address as he missold him something. Didn't think anything of it till ebay emailed me to say the payment for the av equipment was fraudulent and not to send the goods!! It took them 5 days to send this mail and I'd long posted them. They then reversed the transaction in paypal and I was then £150 out of pocket and missing my av equipment. Turns our he nicked a friends paypal account (could have been in it together who knows) and pretended to sell lots of high price items (flat TVs etc) till they had several thousand in the paypal account (BIN only) and they bought as much stuff as they could. He did keep emailing me (hotmail) to ask when it was being posted and I thought nothing of it. I was not the only one diddled by this.

Anyway, eBay/Paypal were not interested, I did not qualify for sellers protection (total farce anyway) and told to contact the police. I didn't bother and put it down to experience.

Made me much more careful on eBay, but I still got stung before Xmas this year. Again for an ipod. Bought one for £40 (bargain) and paid through paypal. Nothing arrived for 2 weeks and emails stopped. I filed a claim through paypal and after 28 days they refunded me as much as they could (£12 short) and would do the rest if any more came into his account. Which I now doubt as he is no longer registered and again I was not alone with the non delivery of items.

You live and learn all the time, but I would advise everybody to read all the t+cs when buying. And always pay special attention to any buyer/seller protection logos on listing. When you see them they are properly registered with eBay and you will stand a good chance of getting your money back.

I still love eBay though certainly revolutionised the 2nd hand market.
