My Redundancy Diary

Thank you for the replies, unfortunately I don't actually reach my 12 year anniversary date so will only get 11 weeks notice / redundancy from my company. I was thinking of trying to find alternative employment before our finishing date, but after yesterdays meetings etc I think i'm going to stick it out with my company, and have some time off in between. This will then allow me to look for jobs that I want, and if I get the React II funding I will also train in the medical profession. This thread has really helped though, I was in a bad place till yesterday0

I am struggling with one factor on redundancy, wonder if anyone can clear up the matter.
Consultation - 30 day consultation period started Monday 23rd April
Redundant - Advised in meeting with director on Tuesday 8th May work is being re-located, written confirmation received of this on Friday 11th May. Office work will have moved by no later than Friday 27th July.
As I am still working for the company until date of closure, does this time count as my paid notice or will I get 11 weeks salary when I finish with them plus my redundancy?0 -

Notice starts when they issue official notice of termination by reason of redundancy. what does it say you will be getting in the writen confirmation, was that proper notice
When did you start?
I think they should be offering the option to relocate.0 -
They didn't offer re-location to us, was only brought up after I enquired about it but for me it would be 140 miles a day excluding bridge toll so it isn't worth me doing it.
The letter doesn't say what i will be getting...should it?
Just says as per meeting on 23rd april they've made a decision to centralise the admin function, a transition will be drawn up and shared in due course, latest date for completion would be 27th July, full support will be offered for CV / job application, paid time off for interviews.
The last paragraph says "should you be in a position whereby you have found alternative employment before 27th July, you will still be entitled to receive your notice period and statutory redundancy payment.
I started working for them 4th December 20000 -
Looks like they have not issued proper notice yet or plan to pay PILON
Might be worth clarifying what they think with an example based on someone getting a job before 27th.
it's good practice to be clear what the dates are and what the payments will be, perhaps they will do that with the official notice letters.
You were right, Dec 2000 is a bit far off to make 12 years0 -
Thank you for the advice, I emailed my HR Manager over the weekend with the questions I had, she has replied back today advising she would get answers and email me back.
I still hadn't heard anything from her by the time I was due to finish so rang to chase things up and was told she didn't have the answers and was waiting on a Director to confirm?
I've also rung ACAS today to put the same questions to them, but I feel they tied me up in knots. All I want to know is where I stand whether it be good or bad news so I can make some decisions.
Also looks like the new people who are taking our jobs are being sent down for us to train them...a tad cheeky when we are the ones loosing our jobs.0 -
The alternative is you travel to them to train them.0

Just an update from me - sorry it's been so long since my last post!
I'm now 6 months into my postie job and after sitting behind a desk for 23 years I never ever want to sit behind a desk again! Bloomin' love the job even though it's only 24 hours a week.
However, with the other time I have in the week, myself and a friend (who's also works part time) have set up our own plastering & pointing business and we're "going live" in the next few weeks. We've done jobs for friends and family but with everything falling into place soon we expect to be busy enough to supplement both our incomes.
Sometimes you have to think laterally I guess, I had several interviews for office based roles, none of which set me heart racing but with redundancy comes opportunity and I'm glad to have taken both!

Just a quick update, letter we had been sent didn't stand as "official notice", they've not explained things a little bit better after me chasing them most of the week. New letters received yesterday which are sufficient for me to proceed with my React funding, and everyone knows where we stand, which is all that I wanted.
Still job hunting, though very early days. Hoping something will come up in the next 10 weeks0 -
Hi
Just thought I would join the thread.
I am in consultation and was given a letter to confirm final day is 30 June. Also had an email with pilon and srp. They told us there are jobs within the company, but as I can't travel (due to having IBS) my opportunities are very limited.
I told them they weren't offering me any reasonable alternative employment, I just got- things are changing watch this space.
I am trying to get my name out there amongst recruiters, but time is counting down and very shortly panic mode will set in.I have 31 days to find a job and counting down
