  • Update from me! With my leave date of 17th Feb approaching I've been asked if I will move it to 30th March and I've agreed. It's another month and a half's pay plus gives me a bit more time to find other work.

Good luck to all who are facing redundancy this year!

    Hi Andyboy and everyone

Just found this thread......so interesting and supportive!

Can I join? OH went back to work yesterday after 3 weeks holiday to find a big meeting scheduled and everyone was put on 90 day notice of redundancy! OH is 60 and majorly shocked. The whole operation will be closed down in Bristol. I'd better not say which company. They were then sent home for the rest of the day.......He has worked there 40 years. :(

So eek what next? Anyone got any suggestions about supporting OH?

    Thanks

    Gintot

Gintot....It feels strange to say welcome to this thread (due to it's nature) but You are very welcome.

Sorry to hear your news. Whilst your heads are buzzing all over the place i would just try and think of a few things first. Does he need to work anymore? This would help decide the other routes.

You wil hopefully get plenty of support and info from here.

Little M, just ensure the redundancy is not affected by extending your leaving date and also ensure you get the acrued leave for the extra time. Apart from that it is always worht grabbing the extra money.

    Good luck.

  • Hi Andy and everyone

Thanks for the welcome. OH was more positive yesterday and thinks semi-retirement beckons and can't wait to go now. He has worked faithfully to support us and never been out of work so it's a new opportunity for him. It's a bit scarey not to have the security of a job and not to have chosen to go...but he is seeing possible good times.

As for needing to work we have some money behind us but I gave up my very pt time job last year and have been claiming contribution based JSA which has a horrid fascination all of it's own.....so not sure yet. I am off this afternoon to do a rapid reclaim so wish me luck.

    Thanks for the support.

i am sure you will be fine this Pm with claim. Glad to hear the positives coming out and that your oh is accepting his position. My dad was medically retired asnd found it hard to accept to start with but is so glad now.

Keep us posted and enjoy your JSA experience....i found it most eye opening. Gumtree, ebay and other selling sites are all now beconing me.........

  • hi Andy and everyone

Did my rapid reclaim for contributions based JSA as we were out of the country over Christmas and New Year. doesn't get any better.......was given two jobs to apply for that I didn't want. Mandatory! Heigh ho...........

OH much better again today and has requested an estimate of redundancy payout. Apparently you can do this first, ahead of the formal discussion.

He has a friend who turns 65 during the 90 day consultation. Looks like he will just have to retire with no redundancy. Anyone know? and he had hoped to work on...bummer.

    Have a good evening

My break is soon coming to an end. My Redundancy Diary is fast becoming my search for work diary......it was always going to come to an end.

Starting to look at all local companies in my field and will trawl the jobsites for the next few weeks. Unfortunately I have not found any skills areas that would allow me to self employ. How are you doing? Any new problems out there?

  • Well , after being gainfully employed for many years without a break, Monday I was given notice of redundancy.

I have been at my firm for four years and I had a feeling that the last year wasn't going too well for me.

During this time I also live away from my daughters who are 12 and 10 and see them only every second weekend so going home has always been on my radar.

My salary was £44k plus a £5k car allowance and BUPA, Phone bla bla bla.

My last offcial day is Friday 30th March when I will receive my final pay cheque and also the sum of £17k which I have to say is very generous really.

I was also offered my same position back but on half the salary which I declined.

So, I have set the ball rolling, had a few agency conversations and today I go on gardening leave.

I am now single and rent a one bedroom flat where the lease expires in April, which I could let go and move in with my parents.
I pay child maintenance at £400 a month and my only other commitments are the car which is nasty at £415 a month with another £17k outstanding.

Another £6k in credit cards and Overdraft.

I dont really know which way to turn now and look forward to some advice.
