the first day since they have taken over the debt i havent had one phone call or text

now to be honest this has really sacred me to a fair degree (obviously the idea)
whats worrying me is i am currently staying at my mums helping her as she is severley disabled, i really cant afford them to visit her hourse when im at work, im hoping this is purely a scare tactic it is signed by j white who is one of the directors.
what should i do now? still no replies to the letters should i fire yet another letter off?
thanks again0 -
"calling" usually means that they will be phoning.
They quite like you to misinterpret it though.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

hi I had a debt with captial one I was paying monthly via dmp,i managed to do a f&f for 40% with them,I know that this was not cougar but may give you a guide to what may be accepted
hope this helps0 -
thanks fermi and mike
mike did capital accept the 40% or was that a dca? i actually offered capital one about 35% before they sold the debt and they wouldnt have any of it

thanks culex
"Did it specify which Wednesday?"
no it didnt just says on wednesday
"Yes, you should send them a letter by Special Delivery withdrawing any licence or permission to visit "your" house and stating that all communication henceforth must be in writing and in the form of a letter sent by mail. Email is not adequate or acceptable. "
i did send them the letter you suggested earlier though i will send one you suggest again now as i cant afford to jeopardise my mums health with a home visit however slim the chances might be, can you outline a template for me?
thanks i really do appreciate it0 -
Apologies if anyone else has already advised this but phone National Debtline. Google them - this site isn't letting me post a link. They are an independent charity so they won't try and sell you anything; rather, in my experience, they take a great deal of pleasure in giving advice on how to deal with thugs like the ones pestering you at the moment.
As a rule of thumb, unless the debt is to the Revenue, Council Tax or (in some cases only) CCJs, debt-collectors have virtually no powers under law.
On a personal note - my mindset with this very stressful situation is to remember that these grubby despicable people aren't lying awake at night worrying about your debt as you are!
DON'T speak to them again until you've taken professional advice.
Good luck.

it was captital one direct and the debt had been on a DMP for 3yrs 4 months and i never missed a payment on dmp before making the offer, but dthey did try to change the figure every time i spoke to them or wrote to them I had to use all my sales skills to pin them down as they were quite slippery, but in the end they came round to my way of thinking on it0

After posting my reply earlier I've now read most of the other replies that you've had. Very helpful, nice people.
DON'T deal with Cougar! Take advice from NationalDebtline. My experience is to demand that they return the debt to the original Creditor. They are not going to take you to court, that I guarantee; in the unlikely event that they turn up at your door the only pressure they can apply is the embarrasment of having bailiffs at your door which would be viewed as harrasment under 1974 legislation.
You are quite rightly feeling a bit worried about getting yourself into debt however that doesn't mean that you should be subjected to abuse when you are trying to sort out the situation. I repeat NationalDebtline 0808 808 4000.
Try not to lose sleep over this - I wasted years of my life worrying about scummy debt collectors until I found out how to deal with them.
Best wishes,
Andrew K0
