No gas here either, or mains sewerage :(

I am sorry, I suspect it is me being ignorant but how is the sewerage linked to this?

    Thanks for any clarification :o

A mate of mine is a gas fitter. He came over and added loads of stuff to our ancient boiler and heating system, including a remote control thermostat, so you can control the heating without leaving the sofa. The best part is, all these parts came free, cos they were parts paid for but not used in other jobs. In total, 4 hrs of work by a certified plumber/gas engineer for £130 worth of parts!

  • Ours is usually on 18, and pretty much constantly on........gets too cold otherwise, and that's with plenty of big layers on :o

At work I have a fan heater that is on all day even though the office does have heating ( I even sometimes use it in the summer too, as the air con is soooooooo cold ).

At home, I try not to use the gas, so I have slippers, pj's, jumpers and a blanket, on the bed I use an electric blanket.

My old house we didn't have gas, so I got used to using storage heater sparingly, now that I am single and even though I have a combi boiler I try not to use the gas, the though of a huge bill scares me too much.I have used it though probably 5/6 times so far this year, just for a couple of hours in the evening if I get really cold or if the cat sneezes.

I am moving this wek though to a cheaper rented place and the village has no gas again, so back to storage heaters and more layers.
  • Mine is set on maximum :D

Makes absolutely no difference though, as we currently have no boiler (about £3k to replace) and .... we've run out of oil (long story, it doesn't usually happen).

In a detached house, we're managing on an open fire ... well, not exactly managing. But the fire is lit :D

Layers of clothing and hiking socks are a must.

What also works is a good walk - it helps if you have a dog as you simply "must" go out.

Once you've been out for a "bracing" walk, you realise how warm your cold house is :D

15/16 but that is because any higher and we get too hot, thermostat is in a stupid place (next to front door which is draughty). I only have it on from just before the boys get up, until we leave for school (or just before) and then just before kids come home until bath time. They wear PJs for bed and socks so don't get cold through the night, also during winter they use duvet under them aswell as over as they prefer that (old cot duvets come in handy). During the day time I just put extra clothes on. I have to agree with the going outside then come back in and makes you realise it is warm.
One day I might be more organised...........
