No way! I have a piggy banks ,1 for silver and 1 for copper, surprising how quickly small change turns into pounds!

Good for you, but I don't see the attraction for a grown up to save £500 in a piggy bank and why take the contents to the bank?

Next time you need to spend a fiver use the coins from your piggy bank and save the fiver.

RBS banks have the coin counters as well, although not in every branch. You just pour in your coins and it goes straight into your account. You then get a receipt listing how much you had in each denomination as well as the total amount. They are pretty handy, although I always know how much I am putting in anyway.

Ja, this is standard practice in German banks. You just rock up, throw a load of coins at the counter and hey presto :D

Personally I don't see the attraction in knocking other people's habits? As I've mentioned before, she uses it as a visual reminder of the money she is saving by not smoking. It's not a piggy bank as such, but a tin, and she likes the reassurance and reminder it gives her - who's to say that's wrong?

She works so much that it has been mounting up for a while and she just hasn't had time to get to the bank.

Think I shall pay it into my own account and transfer it over, that's a good idea.

Anyone know of RBS / HSBC branches in Glasgow with these coin counters?

I think the HSBC in Glasgow has, but can't remember if I'm mixing it up with a note/cheque machine :(

There is a good chance that a number of the pound coins will be fakes - so there would be the added time of pulling these out of the bags.

My local Nationwide branch has multiple signs making it clear they only take 5 bags of coins at a time.
Although they will waive that for childrens and charity accounts, at least that's what the sign in my local branch says.
