The RBS branch on Sauchiehall St has them, you can also feed it cheques.

    Awesome :D:D

Going to open an account there next week, just to use this.

EDIT - just applied for their basic account online :)

My bank - Nationwide - made a fuss about taking much less than this - about 10 bags of coins, I guess, on a Saturday. I took them round the corner the a Lloyds bank where I have an ancient account with 47p in it. They changed them for me no bother. If I'd had more time and motivation I'd have kicked up a fuss at Nationwide, especially considering the business I do with them, the sums I have invested with them and the length of time I've been a customer. However, I decided to get on with my day and just say thanks nicely to the Lloyds staff. Must be losing my touch!

My local Nationwide branch has multiple signs making it clear they only take 5 bags of coins at a time.

Slightly off topic, but the coin machine in our local Tesco was charging 8% for the privilege of counting your cash. - We didn't use it!

Yep, these machines are in most supermarkets now. This is the main reason I've just applied for an RBS account as per my post above :D

To be fair to the bank that is one hell of a lot of coins to plonk on the counter on a Saturday morning!
That it's not, when it's bagged up.
They pick 5 of them up (£100), plonk them on the electronic scales, verify the amount, grab the next lot .... for the £500 (25 bags) this would take all of about what? 15 seconds (20 tops) ... then you simply have the task of putting them away in the cash drawer & crediting the account. It would take far longer than that to do many types of transaction. It would also take longer to argue over than it would to simply accept them.

The last point is the argument I would use if they ever queried it. I've paid in about 30-40 bags of change in from time to time & am usually out of the bank in no time at all. So in my mind, 'being busy' has little to do with it.

At the Nationwide it takes longer just to get an old pass book updated than it would to pay in a number of bags of change that can be weighed in no time ... yet I don't see them stopping people doing that??

can you not change them where you work?
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

    They wouldn't even take one.
Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!

My local bank used to have no cashier service on a Saturday, you could speak to the staff about other things but the only cash transactions could be made via the self service machines.
