Why should parents save for a house deposit for thier kids?

If they're able then why not? I asked the question.;)

You've just said that your dad gave you his house!

First mistake, Considering you JUST signed up this month and have 21 posts, You are considered a newbie and the proper response should be "whats a troll?" not "I am not a troll" means that you are a troll lol most people that are newbies dont even know what that means, but you do, hmmmmmmm. just sayin

While I'm sure the OP is a troll, I have to question your logic. MSE is not the only forum in the world, so it's perfectly normal for a member to know what a troll is before joining. Especially when there are features in the national press about trolls.

Having just had to oay out £250 for gas and electric the OP is bloody lucky she lives with her mum still! I don't think she'd cope in the real world!

    You didn't pay anything!

I can't believe I'm defending a troll, but by christ some of the abuse aimed at her is hilarious! Posters claiming to be sat weeping due to it! I mean good god! Get yourselves to medical professionals if a thread on MSE is affecting you to that extent!

Just because the OP is a total bi*ch doesn't make her a troll. Sadly there are selfish spoilt little madams like her. If she's been living at home all her life (including when she was at uni) she wont have a clue about prices. She came on here for support to back up her gripe about coughing up money - but she's being seriously savaged on here.

Steady on guys! - she appears hateful to her mother but we shouldnt make judgements about her. Maybe she's just naive.

Not surprised she didn't come back again to post. What can she say?! Doesn't actually make OP a troll.

My god, my husband & I have less than you left to live on after all our bills have gone out & we have a child to feed! Get a grip! As you've already said its YOUR home..... Why the hell shouldn't you be paying to help keep it???

As for your friend, s/he's clearly a complete idiot! I'd love to know where they live for a 3 bed house to only cost £20 a month in gas! We have a 3 bed house & our combined gas & electricity bill is £133 a month, Water is £50, Council Tax is £137, Rent is £600. Do the maths! Its not cheap to keep a house going!

And as for you "only" earning £1200 a month. I'm 31. I started working at 18, earning £460 A MONTH!! I gave my mum £150 a month at the time. I still earn less than you now. £1200 is A LOT of money for someone your age to be earning! I dont think you appreciate how much life in the real world costs. But I would love to be a fly on the wall when you're out there on your own...... you're going to be sorely disappointed.

I also believe the OP is a troll but would like to add the following comments

    1) She is a Selfish madam, her mum needs her help to maintain the payments on the house - she should of course be helping out without complaing,
Although I can partly see her point about contributing more than her brother - maybe he is a lazy so and so who hasn't even bothered to look for a full time job, so i would be annoyed about subsidising him too, however her payments are still on 1/3 of the household expenses

    2) I think I might resent it if my mum asked me for £100 a week keep, I have recently moved home again, which they had been wanting me to do for years. They live in a small 3 bedroom ex-council property which is fully paid.
Before moving home I paid £300 rent for my one bedroom flat (which size wise was bigger than their house), Other bills I paid was £60 a month electric and £40 a year contents insurance plus food/washing up stuff etc which was about £120 a month, so under £500.
For that I had complete freedom, lived in a city, tidy up when I wanted etc. If I was paying £400 keep for living with my parents, I would expect the same freedom I have If I was living in shared house elsewhere.

This is what parnets often forget when saying that keep is less than rent and bills would be elsewhere - you don't get the freedom that goes with living elsewhere, however - its up to you if you want to live there - you could move out!

I don't currently pay keep, the parents actually won't let me, however I do pay the phone bill/internet and buy them extra good presents for birthdays, christmas's etc and treat them to meals out etc. I would have no problem with paying a reasonable amount for keep but think £100 a month is too much.
The house we now live in, my parents used to rent out for £80 a week for the whole hosue.

My parents are not well off, and are in recepit of pension credit.
Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.
