The whole "baited breath" thing is quite annoying..........

And phrases such as "Just to let you know" and "I was wondering if someone can help me....."

Transparent lies in advertising annoys me. I can't think of a specific example, but they're usually statements such as "Because we think everyone deserves free turnips, we're giving them away to all our customers who buy a carrot."

How dare they insult me with such nonsense! It's blatently obvious that they think that giving away turnips will increase their sale of carrots. They are driven by profit, not a benevolent, idealism. If they were acting on a genuine charitable desire they would give turnips away to everyone, not just those who increase their profits. Do they think that people are simply too stupid to realise that a modern business exists to make money?! And why would they think that insulting the intelligence of potential customers is a good way to increase sales?! Grrrrrr!

You've reminded me of one: assumptions in advertising.

I've made a thread about this before, but stuff like, "Everyone's favourite celebrity" or "The IDEAL gift for mother's day."

How dare they assume that I and people who I buy gifts for are the same as the lowest common denominator.

When people say/type, "should of" or "could of" instead of "should have" "could have".

You don't think we all deserve free turnips?? I suppose you think we don't deserve basic human rights, and should be taken out in single-file and beaten with them instead?

Esuhl admires that philosophy because, by annihilating human perceptions of justice, esuhl's own mediocrity can flourish. Esuhl's expedients are impertinent—and that's the polite word for what I actually think of them—and that's one reason why I'm writing this letter. I think it's important to continue discussing this even after I've made my point because esuhl claims that uncivilised pertinacious-types should be given absolute authority to squeeze every last drop of blood from our overworked, overtaxed bodies.

Whether that's true or not, the evidence is corrupted by a vast amount of nonsense and outright fraud.

So many of the things that annoy me have already been listed. I hadn't realised there were so many phrases and words out there that 'get my goat' haha. My MIL's partner, who thankfully we don't have to see that often, adds 'you know what I mean?' at the end of most sentences. In fact that doesn't even need a question mark as he isn't asking, and would no doubt tell me to 'go away' in a not-so polite manner if I asked him to explain. When he's on the shandy, which he is most of the time, it's at the end of EVERY sentence. Sometimes I just feel like shouting 'NO!' each time he 'asks' Arrrggghhhhh!!!!!!! (Extra exclamation marks especially for those you hate them LOL!!!)

    Excellent thread :)

The ubiquitous use of "Literally" to mean anything but literally is most annoying. I remember Alexandra Burke on X Factor (OK, so going back a bit!) describing visiting a red carpet event at Leicester Square...

"I LITERALLY got out of the car..." Really, Alexandra? Actually, physically getting out of a car must have been quite an event for you! And I'm glad you clarified, beause I thought that you meant it an a metaphorical sense.

More recently, Sally Bercow appeared on 10 o'clock Live and said that MPs would "literally" get a rocket up the @rse. Fortunately, David Mitchell pointed out how amusing this would be, if it were true.

I also hate posters on this forum who end their posts "Rant Over!!!". Why? Surely it's clear as the post has come to an end, but if you're on a high horse over something, stay up there and keep shouting about how carp it all is - it's far more satisfying!
