Surely inflation dictates that their basic principle is doomed to fail in the longer term although at the moment they offer fantastic value.

    They've been around a long time.....but you're technically correct.

In Ireland there are the "2 Euro" stores [£1.70-ISH].

I go into Poundland every week day, as part of taking a walk at lunchtime (as I work near it).
I check for new stock coming in because they often have stuff discontinued elsewhere for only £1 which is extremely good value.

Although some of the stuff in there is pure tat, some is good value.
You get what you pay for and you should check what you are getting before you pay for it.

It's you who is assuming I am "venting". I could equally be "warning" (or even "praising") as I believe all 3 topics are covered by this forum.

    A point well made....

So just for the record..... which of the three were you doing..venting, warning or praising????

    Who really cares?

The OP raised an issue that less savvy shoppers should be aware of - Poundland isn't always as good value as their marketing may claim to be

8 bags of crisps for a quid is still fantastic value when you buy them separately down the corner shop for 50p or more EACH.

The op said is still worked out the cheapest. How can somewhere that is the cheapest not be as good value as they're claiming to be? Do you want everything for free?

Well, I thought I was "warning" but Money_User has told me that "without doubt" I was venting. Must be nice to be so sure of other's intentions!
