I've noticed a lot of this in Poundland - special pack sizes. Makes sense.

    Just like the bread they've started selling - 600g Warburtons Toastie loaves - 800g ones are £1.35 in Tesco = £1.0125 for 600g ;)
Thanks for the warning. This is the first time I've noticed it- though I don't buy a great deal in it so not surprising.

I remember looking at the size of the Warburtons when it first came in and price checking it gram for gram to Mr T as well. ;)

There are some bargains in Poundland, but there are also some things that are the same price as elsewhere or more expensive. You just have to be savvy about what you buy from there. Poundland milk, for example, is the cheapest on the high street here, but even cheaper (by 11p!) if we go a bit further out to Aldi. If I need to do a big shop, I'll go to Aldi, if not, I'll suck up the 11p as it's worth it for the time/petrol difference.

Personally, I love Poundland and it seems everyone else around here does too - it's manic at the weekends!

It's no bad thing really if a 600g loaf would do you. So closely priced though that if Tesco/etc have the 800g ones on offer you'll be paying over the odds (sure I've seen them for £1 on special offer before)

Also a Poundland fan :T - noticed that stuff that is clearly bankrupt stock is better value than their normal lines though (like those Hoegaarden glasses I got 2 for £1 - bargain)

I bought the 800g Warburtons Toastie in Iceland yesterday for £1.00.

It's you who is assuming I am "venting". I could equally be "warning" (or even "praising") as I believe all 3 topics are covered by this forum.

The sentence you open with is without doubt a vent, I wouldn't really call it an assumption.

You'll find this amongst many items in both mainstream and budget stores - manufacturers have to make a decision between keeping pack sizes/product weight the same and increasing the price, or reducing the pack sizes/weight and keeping the price the same to offset the effects of inflation and rising fuel and ingredient costs.

The great obfuscation, 2 litres v 4 pints(2.27l). I get 2 litres for 79p in Tesco = 90p for 4 pints, by far the cheapest.

I have noticed the reduction in pack sizes even for name brands. Poundland now have the buying power to dictate special sizes. Many of their items have reduced from 10 to 8 per pack, a 25% price increase. Surely inflation dictates that their basic principle is doomed to fail in the longer term although at the moment they offer fantastic value.

    See "big packs" of beer.

    12 cans?

    Prime example of this
