not just the arab league. the russians are saying the military action has gone way beyond what the UN mandate allowed.
gaddafi is a dictatorial !!!!!!. however we're handing him the moral highground with this oil hungry foreign intervention tbh.
and poor innocent people are stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea once again.
i'm sick of this divide and rule of national governments and their alliances that just uses populations as pawns for the rich and powerful. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

many species stop reproducing when resources are scarce (elephants for example). others such as pike don't have this self-checking mechanism and will continue to reproduce beyond crisis levels. so which type are humans? elephants or pike? Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0

sorry gen that's not even english, is it???? [confused emoticon]
Apology accepted.
It is English when combined with your comment.
3,800,000,000 years of evolution has driven creatures to want/need to reproduce. People aren't suddenly going to lose that driving force just because you want a nicer flat screen TV for your bedroom.0 -

I would say the great unwashed are more like rats personally.0 -

I don't know for certain but it seems incredibly unlikely that an animal that is able to conceive for a few days each year and is then pregnant for the best part of 2 years responds to short-term resource pressures.
http://www.scienceinafrica.co.za/2004/september/elephant.htmThe good news is that elephant populations are thriving in areas of southern Africa after years of hugely successful conservation, following the banning of the much despised ivory trade. Conservationists in some areas are now faced with a new challenge: overpopulation.
http://africafreak.com/the-problematic-issue-around-elephant-populations-two-opposing-viewsCNN reveals the problem around elephant populations and conservation matters. According to South African authorities, the natural balance of the ecosystem is being upset by elephant overpopulation. The pachyderms uproot trees and destroy the environment...0 -

there's no unit of measurement in here. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
Amended just for you ;-) but let's face it, it was pretty unlikely to be anything other than years.
well it wasn't that obvious to me.
anyhow, plenty of species contain thousands of sterile individuals (e.g. ants). indeed not all individuals in our closest relatives (chimps) reproduce. early humans would not all have reproduced. it is only civilising factors and the development of the nuclear family that has allowed all individuals of the species access to individual reproduction. previously competition for resources (particularly females) would have reduced the number of individuals who passed on dna.
it can actually make more sense for species survival for numbers of individuals to forgo reproduction.
just as in the past natural factors would have prevented obesity (i.e. self harm created by biological urge to eat), natural factors would have also limited the numbers of individuals able to reproduce. just as people now literally eat themselves to death the species also seems capable of breeding itself to extinction. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

Right-ho.
Have we found any self-limiting species now? Elephants don't seem to be.0
