What I am trying to demonstrate is how he may try to maximise his position.
Yes and he is doing that now by getting as much military into benghazi as possible before the no fly zone contingent arrive thus making it harder.

Why are the UN forces taking so long the plans should have been in place before the UN resolution so that they could have seized the moment last night while his tanks etc where in the open

why are we so keen to support the libyan rebels (who are armed) and yet are standing by whilst unarmed protestors in yemen are shot dead? same with bahrain. what is worse about libya?
It is nothing about WE as the UK is not in this alone the UK and other NATIONS are following the UN RESOLUTION as voted for.

Yemen and other states we do not have the UN backing as yet so cannot take it on ourselves to interviene.

Furthermore as acts against humanity has been and continues to take place in Libya there are no borders and action has too take place whether you or anyone likes it.

The world has a duty to protect the inocent, peaceful protest which is the Libyans right Gaddafi does not do.

For anyone who has not read the RESOLUTION here it is

I guess you know the answer to that already.

It's not in our interests to interfere in the Yemen they are a poor country and have nothing we want (at the moment), and Bahrain is our ally (the US 5th fleet is based there) as are Saudi Arabia and the UAE contingent who have gone into Bahrain to help the Bahraini government supress the protestors.

You have to wonder who is arming the rebels in Libya - though I read that some of small arms were coming through Egypt with US knowledge.

well who brings the resolutions to the UN do you think?

if it's due to being in our political interests the govt should come out and say that. pretending it is concern for "innocent people" is just a big heap of !!!!!!!! and you know it.

the resolution calls for an end to attacks against civillians. the question is do armed rebels actually count as civilians? yemen is shooting dead unarmed protestors. i mean live bullets into crowds containing women and children as well as unarmed men.

  • So you are ok with the libyan army shelling the international red cross blimey get real.

Furthermore the arms that the rebels have are what they managed to seize from Gaddafi's arms depots and that only happened after peaceful protest was denied

I'm not sure I get your point here. Are you saying that the UN shouldn't be intervening in Libya because they're not intervening elsewhere?

he may be making the point that the West only intervenes when there's oil involved?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • Perhaps the doubters should think where the globe would be without the UN.

It would be a free for all living hell
  • I notice there has been no sign of any intervention in North Korea.....
