I notice there has been no sign of any intervention in North Korea.....

  • Lybia is also a member state of the UN but fails to heed to its resolutions.
  • Lybia's govt have siad they'll be offering oil contracts to Russia and India if 'western nations' don't come back..

I think that means that Shell and BP etc will be out if Gaddafi remains in power.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Russia, as a permanent member of the Security Council, could have prevented 'Western' intervention in Libya. They chose to abstain. A single permanent member voting against a resolution prevents it from being carried.

Indeed and what does that tell you? I'm sure if a nation was against it totally they would have voted so.

Those that abstained are not totally against it, but sitting on the fence to see how it all pans out and thus not get any of the blame if there is any.

That didn't stop the US & UK invading Iraq though.

I can't see why we're expected to get all upset about Libya, Gadaffiduck was happy to sell us oil. We don't call for a no-fly zone for civil rights in Nigeria, Uganda, Tibet, etc etc.

Must say, I'm pretty fed up with Britain meddling in the affairs of other states, particularly non-European ones with medieval tribal systems with which we have very little in common and little understanding of. It's unlikely that what replaces Gaddafi (if he is replaced) is going to be any better.

Wars have happened throughout human history – one of the ways in which the human population was kept from exploding, I guess. Why are we getting into yet another war, when we have so many problems at home, not least an economy that is badly in need of repair, high unemployment and a growing indigenous population that is ill prepared for work and for coping with hardships such as those many of their parents and grandparents endured?

I'm much more concerned with what is happening in Japan at present – all those poor people in northern Japan who seem to have been largely forgotten by the world, and of course the developing situation with the nuclear plant. There is little on the news about the situation in Japan – just a surplus of endless reporting about revolts in the Middle East.
