I've got 10 or so cup cakes that are nearly stale. I had some last night with custard, but they're on the turn. Some have icing on them, and some have little choc chunks in them. Any idea what I can do with them?

The chocolate chunk ones I'd heat in an oven or microwave and have with custard as a hot pud, the Iced ones I'd leave out for the birds!

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

Make a sort of bread and butter pud with them, slice and pour over the eggy mixture and bake.

Pour over sweetened fruit juice with a drop of alcohol and have a sort of summer pud ?

  • I second Mumoftwo's trifle. I'd take the icing off first. They can be frozen for latr trifle making if you won't be able to use them in one go.

they might bounce back if you sprinkle a drop of water on them and pop them in the microwave. this works for bread, so might work on cake.

thanks guys! I just made some butter icing and had one which seemed ok. Will see how long they last, but they might have to go to the birds. I'm almost fed up of eating them to be honest!

    Hello OP.
Two ideas spring to mind -
    1. Heat the cake gently (in microwave or in foil in the oven) and serve with a splosh of jam and some custard as a hot pudding.
    2. Make a trifle with no jelly - my ex MIL did this and it was DIVINE. She used cake with a little sherry or whatever on it, then tinned raspberries (sounds gross but is delicious), then custard, then whipped cream and a few toasted flaked almonds on top.
