can I do anything with this stale cake?

hi all
yesterday I made black saturns simple fruit cake and for once I didnt eat it all the same day! I have however managed to leave it out overnight on the kitchen side & its become stale and slightly hard

Is there anyway I can salvage it or turn it into something else? Or is it fit for the bin ?

  • Hi, Lynz! I warm up my muffins for 30 sec in the microwave, but you then need to eat immediately, or they'll go staler and inedible. Alternatively, make into a tiramisu thingy, or trifle if this is your thing. I might freeze it for making into a pudding later, but with your imminent move, this might not be convenient.

Cut it into thin slices and use alternately with slices of bread to make a yummy bread pudding. (Even nicer if you spread the bread with marmalade first!)

Crumble up the cake and take a small amount and roll into small balls (use a tiny amount of sherry/brandy if too dry) and pop onto a tray for 30mins to set. Then dip into melted chocolate, yummy!

trifle trifle (message too short, apparently)
  • I've found some stale-ish sultana buns in the freezer. Thought I might make Tipsy Cake. Anyone else have any ideas for stale cake?

I can't think of anything else except tipsy cake, or trifle as we call it:D

You could try soaking it in strong sweet coffee and covering with whipped cream. Not sure the sultanas would work with coffee?

:p:p:p So it is, and I've not even started on the sherry :o In my defence I've never made trifle and don't much like it. Maybe I'll prefer Tipsy Cake :rotfl:

What's stale cake? I don't understand - cake's lucky to get cold, never mind stale! :D
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
