Casino Royale Film: Suitability for Children?
Comments
-
The whole point of having a rating system is so that parents know whether a film is suitable for their children or not! Some experts have looked at the film and given it a 12A rating. That means that they think that it is suitable for children who are aged 12 and above. All the A bit means is that if you are a parent, and you think that your child who is slightly younger than 12 is as emotionally mature as a normal 12 year old, then by law you can take the child with you into a cinema (though he can't go alone). If it is a straight 12 film then the child can't go into the cinema to see it, whether you are there or not.
The only question to consider therefore is: do you think your child has the emotional maturity of a 12 year old? A group of strangers on the internet can't answer this question about your child. Their judgments about the suitability or not of the film is based on their experience with their own children or their memories of how they would have reacted at that age, and so are of no relevance.
If you want more information about exactly why the film has been given the rating then look on the website of the BBFC, who will explain it in detail. The people who classify films have lots of experience of doing the job, and apply a list of criteria when deciding what rating to give it - they don't just pluck a rating out of the air to annoy parents or film makers, and they have no financial or other interest in setting the rating - so if you are a responsible parent who doesn't want to expose your young child to material which may distress him (as all the evidence suggests you are) then go with the experts advice.0
