Wouldn't you look a bit of a weirdo if you simply opened the door, pointed to a print out of a sign and closed it again???

I tend to find a simple "No thanks" is the polite and civilised way of doing things.

Anyone who ignores such signs and calls anyway, should expect a little brusqueness.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

we live in a no cold calling zone and its very good. we still get the odd one but i simply point to the notice provided by the council and they go. we did have jehovas witnesses round this weekend but i was going out as they crossed the road and the kids give them short shrift http://www.york.gov.uk/advice/Trading_standards/fairtrading/Doorstep_sales/

AFAIK, these signs have no legality. However, our sign can sometimes be effective

When my doorbell got rung for the 3rd time - they'd kept going off to neighbours but kept trying me as they could see my TV was on so knew I was in - I just answered the door with my breastfeeding baby still attached...salesman was a young guy who could run away very quickly with a very red face

These signs should have some legal authority, people should not be harrassed and bothered by Jehovah witnesses or any salesmen ... there have been a number cases where the elderly have been conned and robbed by these sales people.

I believe if it isn't law to respect these signs then it should be.

I downloaded the last write up from the internet and I'm wondering how else I could add to it and improve the notice?

Any one out there got any helpful suggestions?

You would be better of having a big sign that says NO COLD CALLERS

and putting it right in the most visible area of your front door.

Its its much more wordier than that then most people will ignore it.

Your local council may have produced a version that is adhesive.

It's sarcasm based so I recon it's more of a "my mates will think I'm funny when I tell them this" rather than anything that will actually work.

They're probably told in their training to say back "I know how to phone a personal injury lawyer in 1.2 seconds!" :rotfl:
And in my training I'd retort with "sending all 11 digits on a phone network in 1.2 seconds? I highly doubt it, you kumquat."

(I used to work for a couple of phone companies in my past, so I know a little about the phone system :D)
