You assume wrong then, although I do work for a Corporate Estate Agents.
Fact is this, its a tax, its not their fee.
Now, if you had said they had tried to hide a withdrawal fee, or admin costs I would have said they were in the wrong.
Working in corporate agency, I would think plus VAT is normal. Doing it in the retail arena is to say the least misleading. Am surprised Easy Jet et al haven't thought of quoting all their prices ex VAT.0 -

My personal opinion is that fees should be given as Pounds Shillings and Pence with either including VAT or plus VAT depending on if its included or not.
I think that way is clearer, the client knows what they are paying, no percentages to faff with, just "I'll sell your house for £2,000 inclusive of VAT"

Easily maintained rear garden = postage stamp sized piece of lawn, investing in a lawn mower would be a waste of money
DIYer's dream - the owner has attempted everything themselves and made a real hash of it
Original features = house hasn't been touched since the 30s when it was built
Convenient for local school = deafening din from children screaming all day
Convenient for local transport = bus stop outside the front garden or garden backs on to M25
Charming = tiny
Fourth bedroom/study = broom cupboard or possibly enough space for a cot if you only need access to two sides of it0 -
Incidentally did anyone see the mystery shopper program on Estate Agents?
If their stupid phrases wind you up, you would have loved it!

Ahh. most of the people that have showed us round have been really frank about the state of the places

But I did love "decorated in a smart contempory style" (from website) which translated out as "some idiot watched changing rooms and painted the stone cladding with red gloss"
We have a "spiky twig" fund at home now - everytime we see a vase full of that stupid twisted willow we have to add a fiver to it. There's a fair bit in it already.
