Any fuel protests on the go?

I would like to see stats on this.
I do not believe that the majority of drivers require a car. Being in an air conditioned box with a radio and reaching work in 5 mins instead of 20 on a bicycle is fun.
I would be very surprised if more than 50% of motorists had a commute that couldn't be done cheaper by public transport. Driving is a convenience for most, not a necessity.
Yeah I might head off to Sainsburys with my 5 kids on the bus, should be easy to get the shopping,4 bags for the 2 year old,6 for the 3 year old....get real.
My MIL has just got a bus pass, tried to use it for the first 3 times, waited over an hour each time-gave up.
Maybe we should have a "lets use public transport" day and see what happens.
One thing I think Petrol stations should do is on their price boards display the cost of petrol before and after tax is added.Might open a few peoples eyes.Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.

I cant get to my work using public transport.
If i could (they dont run at my start/finish times), it would turn an 8 mile drive into a 14 mile bus journey.
7 miles of my commute is on NSL roads with HGVs everywhere tearing along as well as all the cars so a pushbikes only for the VERY brave.
The bus that doesent exist is £3.50 each way when they do run. £7 compared to my approx £3 fuel.0 -
I sure as hell wouldn't want my mrs cycling home from work in craigshill at 2am every night on her own even though it is only a 10 minute car journey.
I do 1000 miles a week covering the whole country doing specialized disability/medical electronics, I'd love to try to do that on a bike with my tools, parts and ladders.
I'd bet few people nowadays drive 5 minutes to work if they work normal hours and if they do so what, they probably burn tiny amounts of fuel in doing so.0 -
There's not a bus that serves my work at the times I need to get there either. 20 mile journey.0

What's happening in Japan and elsewhere in the world might put the tax on fuel in the UK into perspective. Protests on such issues are futile, the country is in a financial mess, and people still want less tax, and more services. Disrupting the country isn't going to help anyone. The government is well aware of the issue, and may do something about it at the budget or when the finances allow it.!!

As the OP, where at any point have I said I want less tax. I just feel it should be handled differently. The burden should be spread better than constantly hitting fuel.
The problems that happen worldwide on a daily basis, whilst tragic, are irrelevent.0 -
Everyone in the country has a view on how they would run things differently, but we have a system where we elect a government and leave them for 5 years to try and do their best to meet conflicting priorities, not a system of ineffective and chaotic mob rule.
We are all affected by the cost of fuel, so which tax paid by everyone should go up to compensate, the whole issue is pointless, we are going to be taxed somewhere, does it matter if it's on a or b? Moving it to b may hit you harder, or may cost more to administer.
The Chancellor doesn't need a campaign to highlight it as a problem, wait for the budget, or write to your MP if you feel strongly about it.
Council tax is being frozen, income tax allowances are going up, pensions are going to be more generous, all positive things for people at the bottom of the income scale which may not be possible if we cut back on fuel tax.
If the tsunami happened here last week, would you still be moaning about fuel tax and hoping to join a pointless protest which will disrupt everyone, harm the economy and drive taxes up further.!!

Your absolutely right, a strongly worded letter to my MP will do the trick.0 -
