After just seeing another dont do this dont do that facebook crusade that wont work, is there anything that can be done to show how we feel and try to force a reduction in fuel duty?
Yes, we'll pay for it somewhere else, but hopefully we'll all pay instead of just the motorists.
Should people be getting together and protesting?
Are there any groups already out there already that are organised and planning something?
I'm willing to give time and support and take part, but where?

there was a go slow protest last night (friday) at stanlow oil refinery, while i admire their spirit i couldnt help thinking about the fuel they were wasting in their 4x4's and boy racer cars as they drove up and down and back again on a friday night when no one was watching and only a few tankers were working.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

I would also love to go out on protest, however the nearest oil refinery is a 60 miles round trip so kind of defeats the purpose an saving money on fuel.0

So long as brainwashed people vote the same bunch of incompetent con men in to govern (wearing different coloured shirts depending on which team's turn it is) there will be no change to fuel taxation, ever, or anything else come to that.
That isn't going to happen here because the vast majority of the population believe the bought and paid for news media, and are incapable of independent thought.0 -
Where shall we put the money lost by reducing fuel duty then?
Income tax?
(not in support of high fuel prices, just curious as to where people would rather pay)0 -
I dont think as a nation we've got it in us any more anyway.
It would be nice to be proved wrong.
Income tax is the obvious one, what about a reduced rate of VAT on current exempt items? Books, papers and magazines?
Food?
We all need to eat, the supermarkets may even pass haulage cost savings onto the customer reducing the impact at the checkout.0 -

.
So who should we vote for then? I've never seen a party campaigning with a manifesto including a reduction of fuel tax.0 -
99% income tax*cough* <<<<99% income tax*cough*
I saw that :rotfl:But I'll still vote for you

You are coming at this from the wrong angle. You should be protesting to get the government to act on moving us away from a dependence on middle east/Russian oil. We need more renewables and nuclear, then civil war half way round the workd will not have the impact its having in us today.
Regarding the tax/duty issue, if the fuel duty is reduced then the loss will have to be made up somewhere. Is it fair that those on low incomes who cant even afford a car should have to pay an increase in income tax? At least as a driver you have some control over your costs, you can drive less or buy an more economical car.
I say this as a long term petrol head who drives around 20,000 miles a year. I would love for petrol to be cheaper, but I accept that our dependence on fossil fuels is going to cause even bigger problems in the future.
In fact if you dont like paying fuel duty, then dont, buy an electric car0 -
One more point, anyone who goes wasting their money driving on some go slow protest/whatever, well more fool you for wasting your money. Much better to stay at home, watch TV, go for a walk in the country etc rather than wasting a day of your life on some pointless protest.0
