last straw, thanks a lot Thingabob...
Don't worry about it cc, I think I give up now... that had been the entire point of this thread that MSE Andrea had said compers and bgs could sort things out. Not quite sure what the difference was between your post and what I had been trying to say all along, and have wasted my time on, but I can take a hint from the thanks button
I have enjoyed being on MSE comps for so long, but am going to take a break from posting anymore or trying to contribute to this and also from comping and FB I think
Oh Mamzie, i know how you feel (you posted whilst i was typing my post, it took me a while to put into words what i wanted to say which is why we crossed, and mine being the last post was the one people remembered more) - it looks to me that everything is decided but there are just a couple of things which we have been going round and round trying to understand and decide (the bottom two in my post) - i think you and i have been reading and inturpreting things the same way. but things are still not being put in motion, which is why im now saying please can those last things be decided on so we can move on from this whole sorry affair.
No one has replied to say which way they want it from my options (or if there is another option) so i really cant do anymore.0 -
am sorry haven't replied yet due to having painters & decorators in, doing the puzzle mags etc & trying to keep up in here with discussions
cc - agree with how you've spelt it out for all, seems to be the best way for all in my humble opinion..
""" What we do know is that the majority of people who took the time to vote have said that all competitions with an end date is to be posted on the main board, so, if it has an end date, you put it on the main board.
End dates must be set out E: XX/XX, and if you dont know the end date you guess, and put in your OP guessedenddate.
If you find a competition (example a sign up once newsletter) you post it on the sub board Regular Competitions with the end date E: ONCEONLY.(obviously if it has an end date it can go on the main board because it only needs to be there once, its the ones that dont have an end date but are once only comps i mean here, the other no end dates ive addressed below)
When posting a competition and it has some information that people require to save them clicking into the post, you add it as a 'tag' in the title. Examples would be Facebook, Blog, Effort, Twitter etc.
If you find a competition that can be entered weekly or daily, you put it on the main board as normal, but you also add it to the Regular Competitions sub board with a link to the thread you posted on the main board. It would also be a help if you could send a PM to the person in charge of the relevant sticky (at present PCL for dailies and Gilla for weeklies) for them to add to their brilliant lists.
Right - these are agreed on but we have some outstanding points.
What happens if a competition is new everyday/week, but you can actually enter it through the same link each day/week? My suggestion is that it is posted on the main board every day/week as it has an end date and that is an agreed on rule. But, to help others see it who might normally miss it, we also add a single link to the Regular sub board with the overall end date (if an overall end date is known). Because there is a seperate link on the mains each day, some people who use both boards may duplicate so on the thread in the sub board you must put a warning, something like 'This has been posted on the main board with a seperate link each day' (or week if weekly) This then saves PCL and Gilla having extra work, means everyone who wants all comps on the main board still get them on the main board and those who use the sub board also get to see them.
What about competitions that are ongoing, but have no end date? Im guessing any of these competitions would be covered by my above suggestion, but we have what to put for the end date - how can you guess an end date that isnt necessary. So, i think we have two options, either put the end of the year, and then re post each year (i dont think there are hundreds of these comps, just a handful so it wouldnt make too much work and the Christmas period is normally quite quiet) or we do the E: 99/99."""
i would go for the E: 99/99 but am happy to go along with year end date if majority want.
mamzie - please don't be upset  you've been fantastic in all your posts helping, please don't go  xxplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -

Cat the 1st suggestion sounds fine to me and I've no preference on the end date format as it makes little difference to me...... Maybe the 99/99 one would make it more searchable in the sort though and also cut down on the number ending on Dec 31st. So on hindsight I'll go for 99/99.
Mamzie, I didn't thank your post because I get put off by very lengthy reposts and have limited time this time of year (veggie seeds calling me!) so I didn't read it, I, and I'm sure many others, appreciate your efforts in trying to finally put a lid on this horrible episode.
Happy comping and good luck all :beer:That ain't working! That's the way to do it, money for nothing and TV's for free0 -
Hi all,
I've not entered the debate on this thread, but as one of the comps that has been causing some problems is the classic fm one that I post, I thought I should see how everyone would like me to continue posting it
I don't wish to cause offence to anybody, and would just like some thoughts as to how I can best post this competition so that it respects the wishes of the majority of compers, no matter how they comp ...
Classic fm (for those who do not know) run a competition each day to win a classical music cd. The prize is the same for every day's competition (monday to friday) for one week. The url is the same. However, there is a new question daily. Entries for each daily competition begin at 11am and close at 10am the following day (except friday's competition, which ends on Monday morning). Hope that makes sense!
I have been posting this competition on and off for ages, but as I work shifts, they have been posted at ad hoc times depending upon when I get home. Therefore, I've just posted each day as a seperate competition. What the upset on the boards has made me realise is that different compers comp in differing ways, something that I (shamefully) hadn't considered before (sorry
) and from next week, I would like to be able to post this so it does not exclude those who do not enter as soon as new competitions are posted.
How does this suggestion sound:
I could post on Monday a week-long thread on the main board with the prize details for that week, and with an end date of the following Monday. The thread could be bumped daily with new questions/answers, so therefore could be subscribed to to aid those who do not enter immediately. A link could also be placed in dailies to the main board comp for those who use the sticky. That way the sticky does not need to be updated every day.
Is this ok?
Please don't jump down my throat if you do not agree, I'm just trying to be fair to everyone. Will gladly consider other options if suggested, but I do feel it shouldn't really disappear from the main board entirely to allow it the widest audience
Thank you for reading

Hi nursey,
Personally, i think whatever way you would like to post is fine, as long as the main post is on the main board and has a link to the dailies
So, do we think this is what the new rule should be? All regular comps with a daily end date, but runs for either an ongoing or set time should be posted on one thread and then bumped each day. (From the couple of replies it looks like for ongoing comps with no end date E: 99/99 is the way to go).0 -
Just to let you all know. I have spent the day sorting out the reg board and everything that needs to be moved has now been moved. I have also created a new once only sticky thread on there https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3160362
These are comps that are normally newsletter sign ups so you never have to look at again. Hope you like it and find it useful0 -
Also, the sticky threads on the reg board will be under review as to how we use them. Glad and I have been talking and we feel that we will only use them for a strict comp that requires a onceonly/daily/weekly or monthly entry. This was the original purpose of these threads. it seems now that lots of comps get posted in them just because these websites hold competitions regularly ie. once a week or month when they can infact be completely different competitions iyswim?
So strictly comps that require an entry to it once/daily/weekly/monthly etc.... Is that ok with everyone. This way everyone can comp on the mian board like they do ie. date ending, start date, date posted etc... this will not affect this at all.0 -
I have to be honest and say I would prefer it the way nursey's been doing it for ages in a separate thread each day, and how Diva said it should be done on Monday. The reason is I rely heavily on the "green tick" and if I accidently tick an ongoing one I would ignore it when it was bumped. This also causes problems for people that use "new topic view" as they won't see the bump at all.
If it is to be that way, I would like something either in the title or in the post that alerts me that it's going to be updated (like the puzzler etc ones, I leave those unticked so I open it when it's bumped) something like "to be updated" or similar, then I will remember not to green tick it.
Sorry to throw a spanner in the works there but I think I wont be alone with this difficulty with it
Edited to say: This was in reply to CC and Nursey before Diva posted. That ain't working! That's the way to do it, money for nothing and TV's for free0 -

Hi Nicky,
I know what you mean, but sometimes we do get comps listed like this, and i keep track of them using the thanks button instead of the entered button, that way i still go and look at the thread when its been bumped, and all days that i have entered will have been thanked.0
