so it's all agreed then,
all comps with an end date posted on main board first then a link sent to weekly/whateverplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -
how do you propose a link be added if each days or weeks end date is used?
that means gilla or i need to change the link for every single day/weeks comp. its pointless adding links unless its an ongoing thread. but then you cant have an end date for some of them because the end date you are using is the current days one.0 -

Ok, i dont know if this will work, or people want to do it this way, but as far as i can see, there are only a few competitions like this? The Monday bag one, Classic FM daily one (dailies) and TV news (weekly). Not knowing how many there are im not sure how much extra work it means, i think it affects dailies more than weeklies but im not sure.
Could you maybe, on the daily/weekly thread put a link to this comp with a disclaimer saying it is being posted daily/weekly on the main board seperately to this link so be careful if you use both boards.
That way people who want all comps with end dates on the main boards are happy, and those who use the regular boards are not missing out on a comp - the disclaimer in the link reminding people to take care, especially with a daily comp it should be able to stay quite fresh in peoples mind, and you and Gilla will not have to update the thread as often?0 -
I haven't really commented much on these discussions because I am fairly new here and will happily go along with the majority (and I have never really understood the regulars board anyway). But all this arguing and backbiting has really saddened me. Let the Competitions Time forum go back to be a happy loving sharing place like it was when I first joined.0

Slowly but surely and with great pain, the regular comps are all being transferred to main
only 11 more pages to go and regs will be dead and buried, why prolong the agony? and let the arguments and bad feelings continue to flow
transfer all of the remaining comps to main NOW!
this is to be my first, last and only comment in this thread
Best of Luck0 -
I agree with end date comps on main and ongoing regs on regs... but I did like the idea of E:99/99 for ongoing regs to move to main, suggested by One Eye - what does anyone else feel? My main issue is with reposting daily regs as separate daily threads (this was also the issue that restarted all this again as that was what MSE Andrea had said - and lots of compers didn't like it). I don't mind where comps are really as long as we have the stickys.
Compers just need to know where comps whether entering or posting them. Possible ways of comping on MSE are following the Stickys, search for the Title Tags, notice them as they are posted on main, end date comping, etc.
I miss any comps posted which are live on main for only 24-48ish hours - unless they are linked in the sticky. I don't really notice threads being bumped/posted on first page, as I comp by end date, but try to be a few days in front (failing miserably atm ).
When skimming through the pages I was really frustrated at first when all the End Date d/w/m Reg Comps moved over to the main board, but now am managing to mostly blank them out, thanks to their d/w/m tag being in the title. I normally spot any I want to enter early via the Stickys.
The Daily thread has become an amazing helpful sticky for me. There are so many sub sections now, and its highlighted by colours when a new comp is added, that its often much quicker for me to check that than to run 6 different searches.
I know people are using many more title tags now, but I actually use them to speed read and find out which threads I want to open to enter from, rather than use them as search aid to find comps to enter.
Earlier in this thread, we had reached an agreement on these points, so I'll quote myself, in case it still applies???......
A big fear with reposting Ongoing weekly/monthly every week/month on the Main board is that the less popular ones would be moved when expired and get lost in Game Over - but i could live with them on the main Board after One Eye had suggested the solution of list them as E: 99/99 . (I don't say daily because I think everyone is agreed reposting these every 24 hours would not work)
That could be another way to go - what do we all agree with so far... I think the ones that jump out at me are..
Postal/text/telephone Sticky stays where all of these comps are posted.
Puzzler/TAB threads stay where all of these comps are posted.
Reposting Daily Reg comps every day would not work
Daily Sticky thread linking to Daily Comps Stays
Title Tags work and help people comp???My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

Mamzie, sorry if im repeating anything you have put, but in my head ive thought of this. To me, it doesnt matter where anything is posted as long as i know where it is posted, i work from home and although i cannot promise to be around at certain times/all times due to the nature of my work, i can pop in and out quite a lot.
My problem since the discussion has happened is that competitions that used to be in a certain place had been moved without telling anyone (i am here everyday, so if a notice was put up i should have seen it.) This is why i have been careful not to put my wants, and have tried to work out what others have been asking for. Like i have said before, i know things have been moved because i have found loads of competitions in the regulars that used to be on the main board and if i had known at the time i wouldve had the option of either using the regular board in question or bookmarking it some other way for myself. All i want to know now is where things are, and where shouldn they be posted.
So, apart from going around in circles, and not understanding everything that is being asked i now think its time for something to be decided. So far one BG has suggested one way, 2 others have suggested something else and MSE towers are telling us that as long as we are polite and friendly, us compers can decide it ourseves. This is what i think has already been decided -
What we do know is that the majority of people who took the time to vote have said that all competitions with an end date is to be posted on the main board, so, if it has an end date, you put it on the main board.
End dates must be set out E: XX/XX, and if you dont know the end date you guess, and put in your OP guessedenddate.
If you find a competition (example a sign up once newsletter) you post it on the sub board Regular Competitions with the end date E: ONCEONLY.(obviously if it has an end date it can go on the main board because it only needs to be there once, its the ones that dont have an end date but are once only comps i mean here, the other no end dates ive addressed below)
When posting a competition and it has some information that people require to save them clicking into the post, you add it as a 'tag' in the title. Examples would be Facebook, Blog, Effort, Twitter etc.
If you find a competition that can be entered weekly or daily, you put it on the main board as normal, but you also add it to the Regular Competitions sub board with a link to the thread you posted on the main board. It would also be a help if you could send a PM to the person in charge of the relevant sticky (at present PCL for dailies and Gilla for weeklies) for them to add to their brilliant lists.
Right - these are agreed on but we have some outstanding points.
What happens if a competition is new everyday/week, but you can actually enter it through the same link each day/week? My suggestion is that it is posted on the main board every day/week as it has an end date and that is an agreed on rule. But, to help others see it who might normally miss it, we also add a single link to the Regular sub board with the overall end date (if an overall end date is known). Because there is a seperate link on the mains each day, some people who use both boards may duplicate so on the thread in the sub board you must put a warning, something like 'This has been posted on the main board with a seperate link each day' (or week if weekly) This then saves PCL and Gilla having extra work, means everyone who wants all comps on the main board still get them on the main board and those who use the sub board also get to see them.
What about competitions that are ongoing, but have no end date? Im guessing any of these competitions would be covered by my above suggestion, but we have what to put for the end date - how can you guess an end date that isnt necessary. So, i think we have two options, either put the end of the year, and then re post each year (i dont think there are hundreds of these comps, just a handful so it wouldnt make too much work and the Christmas period is normally quite quiet) or we do the E: 99/99.
Ok,
Are there any other points, and does this cover the ones i have identified? If we can agree then hopefully this will return to the happy place it was, because at the moment its not.0 -
last straw, thanks a lot Thingabob...
Don't worry about it cc, I think I give up now... that had been the entire point of this thread that MSE Andrea had said compers and bgs could sort things out. Not quite sure what the difference was between your post and what I had been trying to say all along, and have wasted my time on, but I can take a hint from the thanks button
I have enjoyed being on MSE comps for so long, but am going to take a break from posting anymore or trying to contribute to this and also from comping and FB I thinkMy light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly
