Looks like the work is going to start on this store in the coming months. A family member lives very close by and had correspondence to tell them of intention to begin work in April.

I am not looking forward to the traffic caused but it will be handy for many tho may will not be for the benefit of immediate locals.

  • Just received notification today that the work is going ahead to build the Tesco Superstore on this site. Some modifications relating to road access and car park layouts had to be addressed, but the JCB's are back on site today. Rumour has it that the planned completion date for the job is November 2012.

It is about blumming time they started, not only has the site lay empty for nearly a year now, but connswater is getting worse to go into, so dull and dreary, not a nice store at all. Going to bring an extra few jobs to surrounding area hopefully. Finally, yes the opening time is Late October early November time.

Awesome, will be handier for me to get to than Connswater - agree that Connswater is awful now, with Game closing there is now 3 shops in a row closed, pity after all the work done a few years ago on the new front.

I had heard rumours that the Tesco Connswater will then close and that Asda will take it's place - maybe thats hopeful thinking, my wife much prefers Asda but Shore Rd / Dundonald stores are not really that handy got to.

Why would Tesco give up a site in Connswater to a competior, then open a new store just around the corner, doesn`t make sense..they will keep it in some form.

main reson? Tesco connswater is badly need of a replacement, the store is dull, damp and dreary and probally costing them a fortune in rent and up-keep, also, Tesco is moving out off shopping centres expection of Northcott, were they demolished that whole place and rebuilt them selves. Let who ever takes it the unit in connswater up do all the work to get it right, the roof cant even take a light rain for crying out loud haha.
  • By the looks of things, work is firing ahead on all cylinders! There are so many JCBs on site now, it will probably go up like legoland! There are signs up now as well to indicate it is definitely Tesco. Not looking forward to the traffic but it will bring a lot of work to the area! Shop4u will probably come to some harm, Russell's cellars will prob have to close

You think Tesco adds jobs to the local economy when they open a superstore? :rotfl:

They destroy jobs on a much larger scale.

They make the profits locally and export them to the shareholders. Money is taken out of the system and given to share funds.
