It's facing Hillsborough Parade if I remember correctly. There's an old warehouse or something there and a car sales place to the right of it. I'd say somewhere in between Kickstart Motorcycles (is it still there?) and the Centre Spot. :D

Tesco staff have apparently been offered transfers to the new Superstore on the Castlereagh Road already though managers have to re-apply for jobs at the new site

This might be more gossip from my shop - but a ware-house man was in today and said it had been sent round the staff - he was only really aware of it because he is watching out for staff notices for the one in Newtownards which may or may not be going ahead!
DJWW - cos we won't let it!

Hmmm. Anyone know what the true impact of a Tesco there would be? Anyone live near a similar development? I'm sure it will be pure he'll trying to get out onto the Castlereagh road from the Woodstock/cregagh road. Do you think a development like this will raise or lower house prices in the area or have no effect at all?

has anyone else heard the rumour that i have heard from numerous people? that due to the amount of money tesco have pumped into Knocknagoney and Newtownbreda stores that they are now planning to let Asda have the Castlereagh site? Apparently Asda were going to move into Connswater in place of Tesco, but now i have heard that has all changed.

two family members with whom i argued "but everyone on the mse forum said it's tesco and that it's on the planning permission website" but my cousins dad (not my uncle) lives on the castlereagh road and she said her father recieved a letter to let them know it was Asda taking the site.

Why would Tesco give a prime site to a competitor? or why give an existing prime unit to a competitor? That is just the gossip mill working too much overtime!! Seriously some people need to ignore the gossip and look at the facts....

In reply to model reject, the recent re-development in Bangor (Springhill) doesn't appear to have impacted on house prices - if anything there are more new developments there since the old centre was redeveloped. Anything would be better than the ugly wasteland the site on the castlereagh road has become.

The big 24 hour tescos at Knocknagony caused some complaints from the houses which backed immeditely on to it - there is a new development there. But I am not aware of any negative impact on house prices on houses apart from those whose back gardens back on to the carpark.

Traffic management will be the main issue - more speed bumps for the side streets no doubt

LOL. Do you have a preference either way? I don't imagine it will have any effect really... the housing market here is still falling due to factors WAY bigger than Tesco. And it will get worse when the IR rises and public sector cuts kick in.

OTOH, I wouldn't live right beside a huge supermarket (ugh) and most people feel the same, so maybe it will have a negative impact...

  • It might have a negative impact on a small number of houses - but I don't see it bringing down the whole area.

People are just negative for negative sake!!!
