NICE guidelines of Essure technique.
It is available on the NHS - it's cheaper for them, less invasive, less time in the hospital, shorter recovery and time off work.
The issue I imagine would be finding a hospital/consultant that offers the procedure as it is still relatively new.Barclaycard 0% - [STRIKE]£1688.37 [/STRIKE] Paid off 10.06.120 -
I think it is because the old coils had a high rate of infection and this used to cause infertility0

Both.please enlighten me....on an 'insertion' basis or regular after fitted scenario?!
The possible side effects are similar to the pill, but also include 0.3% of women experiencing uterine perforation. Other women experience infections in the fallopian tubes or anaemia caused by heavier periods.
The coil is a good method of contraception, but it is not without problems.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Pigpen, I don't think coils are one of the main causes of female infertility, though not using condoms is, since the highest rate of infertility is actually caused by STDs.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

Just thought I'd update.
Hubby went to see the GP and was told to go away and think about it, then come back again in 6-8 weeks time if he still wanted it doing.
Reason is because of his age (he's 30) and because he only has one son. (He has 2 stepchildren though)
He was asked what if something happened to the baby, what if something happened with me and him and replied that if something happened to the baby nothing and nobody could replace him so we wouldn't be seeking to have another baby. With regards to me and him, he said that he wasn't going to live his life with the what if's if we split or I died.
So, he's going to have to go back and tell them YES, I want it done!
I'm dying to make an appointment with the same GP to tell him I want to get sterilised just to see if he would tell me to come back in 2 months time!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
DH had a vasectomy, not in pain for months and months, but the local didn't work during procedure and he still gets cold shivers remembering the pain before they stopped! So just get them to check the anaesthetic is working before the first cut.0

Have you had either?
I was sterilised years ago. Very straightforward operation, no nasty after effects and I have never regretted it.
We opted for me being 'done' for a number of reasons, my wanting to stop piling hormones into my body was one, I wanted to take control and he was really against the idea of a vasectomy. I respected his views.0 -
DH had a vasectomy 31 years ago. Fantastic in all ways, no ill effects at all
He volunteered as he had seen me go through childbirth 3 times, He was very considerate and wanted to do his bit0 -

I was sterilised after my c-section last August at the age of 29. We had quite a battle to have it done. Hubby was told they weren't interested in his views on it!!!
They wanted me to wait for so long to make sure. However I was adamant that I didn't want to go through trying for a baby (I have spent 9 of the last 10 years trying and had numerous fertility drugs) and I had no desire to be pregnant again ( have suffered with hyperemesis in both my pregnancy).
I do however think that if someone wants it reversing they should be made to pay privately not on the NHS.Give me the boy until he's seven and i'll give you the man.0
