No, you are not, you have dozens of ISP's available, it's your choice entirely. Do an exchange search as penrhyn advised you and see what your LLU options are.

When I queried my bill - done this before but never been given a straight answer, it was suggested that I shift to Option 1 - cheaper & as I don't download owt it was more suitable. It was said that I only had a short while to get out of this 12 month agrement or else I would have to pay a penalty - this done over the phone. Woman said she was giving me a good deal - phone & BB for 10 @ month option 1, instead of £15 @ month, but I haven't signed owt.

Geee - bring back Ester Ranzen. It's like the double glazing scam all over again. It's alright for some blokey bloke to bang on that I'm ignorant - but I don't know a Giga byte from an over bite, but have to trust that when someone in the know - ie BT say I need Option 2 to get BB then one shouldn't need to doubt that. As in my book that is a criminal offence. It is sharp practice. It is being a con merchant.

How can BT possibly know what your usage is going to be?
Would you expect your insurance company to tell you how much cover your require for your house?
There are plenty of free software tools enabling you to measure your usage.

I was lead to believe that unless I took option 2 I would NOT get BB - this was years back. I would only get dial up.

So have you now downgraded to the basic call package?
If you pay up front for your line rental you can get it down to around a tenner a month.

    A gigabyte = 1000,000,000 bytes

    A byte = 4 bits

4 bits are the number of BInary digITs needed to code individual letters and numbers.

Viewing the iplayer for an hour represents around 0.6 Gigabyte of data downloaded.

Yes - because of what happened I'm being offered a credit each month of £5 - so I'll get option 1 for £10.

I average 0.2 Gigabytes a month according to their records - when I asked. I don't download stuff. I've been on option 2 for years as I wanted BB & was told that that would be necessary.
I am lead to believe that I will still get unlimited evening & weekend calls.
I have seen no paper work - this was done over the phone _ I'm starting to doubt it now.
Surely I should get paperwork to view/sign?

Are you sure about that? I was under the impression that there were 8 bits in 1 byte....

He'd maybe just had his tea and only felt like a nibble instead of a full byte :)
