I'd like to join too. I'm trying to do two little things each day:

    1. put all of my spending into my budgeting program each night.
    2. open ALL of my mail and deal with it right then

#2 is the hardest. I used to feel such a sick dread that I avoided opening my mail. Even now, when we aren't in quite so dire straights, I guess the conditioned response makes me want to avoid dealing with it.

I do try and write down everything I spend but then I get lazy for a couple of days. I come over feeling like I deserve more and that I should treat myself and undo all the good work. Making sure I write everything down say at the same time every evening should help me. In.

Well we're into week 2 of this and still no sign of Tondella - a pity as I think she said she had a list of ideas for this and I was looking forward to that. Hope she is OK? Will pm her.

In the meantime looks like we'll need to come up with our own ideas until she gets back if we are going to keep the momentum up (or get it going!).

Sooo....I'll start - then maybe if Tondella isn't back we can each take a turn in future weeks... In the first week we have been keeping a spending diary - writing down or keeping a spreadsheet of all our spending to see where our money goes. For week 2, keep up the spending diary but also prepare (or fine tune/update) your statement of affairs. Write down all your income, all your debt (outstanding amounts and interest rates), and all your outgoings. Your spending diary should help you here. Wherever you can don't guess - find evidence - spending diary, bank statements, receipts etc. Let's make our SOAs as realistic as we can.

Once you have done this make a list of actions you need to take in the next weeks and months: outgoings you may be able to cancel or reduce, debts which either need to be paid quickly or transferred, ideas for extra income. Don't try to do all these things now - just make a list so you know what needs looking at.
