By law, no shop should refuse you the use of a toilet (if they have one) and if they do and you wanted to take it further you can.
The law states that pregnant women must have the co-operation of shop owners etc as it can be a health hazard (UTI for example) to hold it!

Do you have a link to this law please?

So if the child or you were hungry, would you steal something for them to eat?

Sorry, meant to say I quoted that from somewhere else. I've no idea if there is a law but for some reason quite a lot of people seem to think there is when it comes to those who are preggers.

A friend once told me that when her daughter was 1st potty training she was shopping in our local Lakeland store. The little one needed a wee so she asked staff if she could use the staff loos. Big no, not even for a child. Her DH was stressing as LO was desperate, but luckily my friend had one of those folding porta potty things, with the 'soak it up pee pads'. She said I should have seen the member of staff's face as she got the potty out in the store and as LO started to wee the pad came away from the potty and leaked onto the floor!!

Luckily I've never had to have mad dashes with either of my DD's, they sometimes don't need to go for hours on end. Once in out local Co-op DD2 announced at the till she needed a wee and without a word from me the lovely lady on the till left our things on the conveyor belt and took us to the staff loo :)

I do agree though that shop toilets should really be for 'proper' customers (i.e. paying customers, or bona fida browsers), although I would hope that they would allow children and pregnant ladies to use them.

due to the disgusting lack of public loos/out of order ones. ALL retail places with loos should b open to anyone.

the weekend before xmas Wolverhampton toilets in the centre were closed due to 'frozen pipes' and then their standalone toilet was also 'out of order'. I dont see how this is acceptable in any town centre.
  • I think the McDonalds near us must get annoyed because we get a lot of customers coming into our store (Tesco Metro) and asking if we have toilets. We don't so we always have to tell them that the nearest is McDonalds.

The shopping centre has toilets but it's about five minutes walk and it's not good for those who are desperate.

There's no obligation on any town to provide public toilets.

Out of interest, how should they have prevented the pipes freezing during that cold spell?
