            Morning All
Started off bright this morning but has turned a bit grey and dull. Still could be worse I hear some parts of Scotland have snow
Loving the new wm bargainbird I wanted a bigger one this time because the poor old one had its bearings replaced about five times over the years  it was over 10 years old and this time it could not be resurrected - the motor blew and took the computer board with it so it was actually cheaper to replace than repair. Morning everyone - just!
Been lurking at work for the last couple of days but never dared to log in cos obviously I'm not supposed to be surfing.
Hugs to everyone that wants one!
Cold and showery here, which is a horrible change from walking to work in the bright sunshine (yesterday).
Only had my part time job for a few months and the work's not coming in so I'm worrying about ending up on the dole again. Just started to relax and think that I could pay off my debts this summer and maybe take the kids on holiday next year - now I've started to try and look busy and hide the fact that I'm not doing very much at all - and not much gets past the director so I'm desperately hoping that more work comes in soon. Keep telling myself I survived before and that I'll survive again but knowing that I have a bit of money in the bank and more coming in at the end of the month (with tax credits i'm £100 better off per week than I was before) makes me sleep so much easier.
Ah well, I should be grateful for what I do have I suppose! And really, with the help of my family and friends, we're not going to starve, I'll have a roof over my head etc.

Taplady - Glaucoma in the family means free eye tests once you reach 40 - which will not be for years yet :j:j
thankyou Donny;):D the free test is if it is your parent or sibling with Glaucoma so they said but I got the test for a tenner as DH had got me a voucher from a leaflet in a newspaper.:T
The eye test went well but lwft me with a headache - I hate the puff of air on the eyeball and it had to be done several times as the machine was playing up. I've ordered some trendy new sunglasses on their bogof deal.
I also treated myself to a new scarf £4 reduced from £10 in the EWM shop.
 I like your name Yorkiepud!:D:T
just had some mackerel and couscous for lunch - time for a cuppa now! the ironing is calling me for this afternoon!Do what you love :happyhear0

            Afternoon all,
Early for me to-day, been so late for past few weeks that by the time I get here I am too tired to do anything except skim the thread.
Hugs to all who are in need or want of one...and to those who, like me, are feeling the cold...mind you, just realised that when I came home from being to hospital with OH for his Warfarin test and changed out of my infernal black skirt....with 2 cats and a shaggy dog I have to shake the be*aysus out of it....I forgot to put on trousers....have an old-fashioned wrap round apron, only felt the cold after a bit as I am wearing thick tights...must go and dress properly soon!!
Cold here to-day although sunny, apparently there is to be snow for St Patricks Day.....there is a postman in Donegal somewhere who forecasts the weather by the trees, behaviour of birds, beasts etc who says there will be snow....hope that he's wrong this time as haven't recovered from last lot yet.
Dinner to-day will be fish of some kind....think pasta with some of the stuff thats in the freezer, really need to get through what's in it, at least 4 portions of shepherd's pie to put in....used lentils, grated carrots and some soy mince with a best before date of 2008, fed 4 of us so pleased with that....OH not keen on stuff like that so will freeze in single portions. Ash Wednesday is 'fast' day for us....meaning that we should only have 'one full meal and 2 colations', as we only eat 2 meals most days I had scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast and will survive until we have dinner around 5/6pm...actually once over 60 there is no religious compulsion to fast but habit dies hard and it will just be the one day....means I will feel hungry all day and crave meat which is also a no-no to-day!
Have decided that for lent I will hoover for 10 mins every day....have done my penance for to-day on the stairs, hoovering does terrible things to my back so this is a big commitment...we only use 4 rooms most of the time when just us here so should manage to get the whole house fairly trim by Easter.
DD3 still waiting for her visa to come through for Oz, may be best part of another month...was reading on paper this morning that if she stays long enough to get permanent residency we, as her parents can apply for residency for the paltry sum of €79k...think I'll stick with holiday visas which cost €10 and last either 6 months or a year, can't remember. I asked her did she want me to knit her anything before she went and she picked out a jacket with short sleeves...have the back done almost to armhole shaping so hopefully the rest will go well....most of it is stocking stitch, no great need to watch what I'm doing so can fly along.
Will need to pot on some veg from little greenhouse at weekend, OH doesn't get the concept of sowing 'a few' seeds of any kind, I think we will have about 30 aubergine plants....he doesn't like them so will get rid of as many as possible to friends...think he may have sown garlic chives instead of leeks....I wanted the chives but the leeks more! Need to sow more tomatoes, some sweetcorn and herbs so Saturday may be all gardening here.
Have a wash just finished in machine, think I will hang them out as there is a great breeze, even a couple of hours would be nice, will take in ones left out last night as they must be dry. Not sure if we are to have rain.
Brother just left Heathrow in last hour to visit his son who lives in California, it is his birthday on 12th so bro and my DS2 have gone to celebrate with him....not sure if he will be there much longer as think his visa runs out in June...
Going to have a cuppa to warm me up before I head to line, have a good day all

 What veggies are they?
I just basically tease out the new plants being careful not to damage them and pot them on in their own pot, I've used plastic cups in previous years.
Depending on what they are they will need hardening off before planting out and as we are still experiencing frosts I woudn't bother with this unless you've got a cloche to put over them. So basically put a single plant in it's own pot, keep it in a warm and sunny place and watch it thrive. Don't forget to water though I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife Louise Brooks

The leeks can't be re-planted in their final place until they are the thickness of a pencil. This can take a few months so don't panic. Carrots I sow direct where I want them to grow, just thin them out as they get a bit bigger.
Make sure you put a couple of holes in the bottom of the cups so that the soil can drain.
Not sad in the slightest - might as well find out how to do it if you don't know
Bear in mind I am not an expert, this is my 3 year growing stuff!!!I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife Louise Brooks

Well, I started on my spring cleaning list today, thought I'd better as the weather seems to be on the turn again. Been doing all sorts of fun jobs like de-moulding and cleaning out drawers. Strangely satisfying! The only problem is that I have to pick dd up from school in half an hour and I absolutely reek of bleach! At least the list is slowly getting shorter!GC 2023 June £72/500 NSDs 1/100
