    Hi all,

Does anyone know how you can pay into this ISA? Can I do a transfer via online banking with another bank, or do I have to pay in with cash / a cheque in branch?

And if I use a cheque, will the start date be the day the cheque clears, or the day I hand it over to Santander? I don't want to miss the deadline!

    Thanks so much

To pay in - however you like. So cash, cheque or transfer from another bank are all fine.

If you pay in by cheque, it's the date that it's paid in that counts, not the clearance date.

Is anyone trying to apply for this online and having issues? I know I've left it a bit late but when I hit the 'look up' button for occupation I get a pop up box with a list of potential errors. I'm presuming the site may be taking quite a battering at the moment though but may have try try again first thing tomorrow.

Also, sorry if this has been answered but can I pay into this account via a bank transfer from my LLoyds current account or do I have to visit a branch.

    Many thanks.

I have applied for this ISA for my wife, and selected to pay in by cheque, as I dont have an account in her name.

I know today is the last day. BUT they have to process the application and send a letter to me, meaning I can not send a cheque until they have posted me the details. Which will be in about 5 days.

Will everything still be fine, as they will not receive any money from me today??

    1. Today is not the last day. The tax year runs from April 6th to April 5th - so April 5th is the last day

    2. Funds which are credited to the account on or after April 6th will be considered part of the 2011/12 allowance, so you are still cutting it too fine.

I would phone Santander (painful as that process might be...) and ask if they can provide you with a sort code and account number, so that you can pay in at a branch.

Same as above, selected to pay via Cheque which is a good idea as now they will need to send me the account details. Its a thursday and might take mon-tues to process with the post arriving wed-thurs if lucky.

I applied yesterday online and I got an acceptance email today.

I also want to transfer money from my Lloyds TSB account via online bank transfer. i assume this is ok ?
The only options on Lloyds TSB personal banking is to "Pay a bill" or "Pay another person" and Im doing neither, I guess It shouldnt matter which I choose though ?

    Thanks

You should be able to do it online. Pay a bill normally lets you pick from a list of bills where the sort code and account number is known and entered for you by your bank and you just provide a unique Bill reference number (at least on NatWest, not sure on Lloyds). Pay another person lets you enter a sort code and account number (and reference number as an option). It should not matter that the other person is yourself.

The difference between a ISA transfer, and a transfer from your old ISA is that you will be using up the 2011-2012 allowace with an transfer from the ISA.

If you transferred the ISA, the ISA would still remain valid from the year, and you would still have the £5340 for the year to deposit.

I never thought of that, I forgot I was actually paying to myself!
    Thanks.
  • I wanted to open up an isa but wasnt sure which one. As i bank with CB i decided to have a look inside as they had massive billboards outside advertising a rate of 4.?? However the assistant behind the desk started telling me it would be too much hassle to open an isa with the tax year ending soon.

I asked her what the rates were and if they had a 12 month isa and what the rate was....she didnt really seem interested and got me a leaflet and wrote down some figures for next tax year. Dont think she was listening. I enquired again and the rate wasnt as good as the 3.3% one so i just went next door into santander and got the most informative assistant on the desk who knew the answer to everything i asked.

Go Santander!! She also asked if i was happy with my current bank CB. They have all been fine up until the person next door i thought.

    So my question.....

I deposited a cheque from another bank and what if it doesnt clear in time? will it go under next years account?

And when does the interest get calcuated in at? Would it be 3.3% on the balance at april 6th 2011 or next year??

    Just wondering....

She also said there would be no charges if i wanted to withdraw money before the 12 month period was up...is this correct?
