I've had this problem when cleaning rugs and carpets,it's just that it isn't quite dry yet and when it is dry the smell will disappear.0

Any wool in your carpets? Wet wool always smells quite a bit. Leave the windows open and use a fan if possible to get the air circulating plus put the radiators on. The smell will go as the carper dries out.Val.0

DH cleans carpets and upholstery and he says that the sweaty feet smell is caused by hessian backing which is starting to rot.
And the stagnant water smell is because not enough liquid has been extracted.
If it is a stagnant water smell you need to clean your carpet again
He says that you can buy a deoderiser that you put into the machine t neutralise smells.
He said that you might be better using a dry foam method of cleaning your carpet.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I was wondering whether it was the weather (or lack of good hot weather) that was different this time. Although I had a dehumidifier in there, it obviously wasn't enough to remove the volume of liquid quick enough.
Catpets have been redone again using a smell neutraliser - still a horrible smell but a lot less than it was.
Am going to try some smelly powder.
And thankyou for suggesting the dry foam method; will look into this.Mortgage start September 2015 £90000 MFiT #060 -
After my disaster with paint spilling on hte carpet, ive washed and washed it but given up so im going ot get a rug to cover it for now. The only problem now is that the carpet skints! ive tried fabric freshner and adding some lanor to some water but overnight the smell appears again!
Can anyone help?0 -
Try bicarbonate of soda. Sprikle it on the carpet and then leave it for about an hour. Then vacuum it up.
It should freshen it up and get rid of the smell.0 -
I think that there are some things you can put in your vacuum cleaner that will make the carpet smell better and clean the carpet better but I'm not entirely sure what they're called.0

Hi Kemo:hello:
I would definitely give the bicarb a go as suggested. Kim and Aggie use this frequently to neutralise nasty niffs.
I've added your thread to the existing one on smelly carpet so you can see how others have solved their problem
Good luck - let us know how you get on
ZipA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I used to always recommend Neutradol on these threads , it's amazing. However I've given up posting about it now as nobody has ever given feedback before and just keep going on about bicarb!!
I used it on a wooden floor in a conservatory that stank to high heaven as the floor had been soaked with dog urine (previous owners/neglected dog). Tried everything previously mentioned to no-avail, Neutradol did the trick overnight, minimal cost and inconvenience and minimum elbow-grease and effort. Do try it, folks!!0
