Next door's cat did something revolting on our carpet. This is what I did:
    - Rinse with bleach solution (old carpet in non-visible area - not advised on posh stuff, stick to bio powder!)
    - Dry and repeat several times
    - When I was sure the "origins" of the stain had gone, I Shake 'n Vac attacked it and Febrezed it a few times. Not normally keen on chemical smells but it stopped me thinking I could smell the cat!

I would go with the bio powder as you probably have that to hand...but if it lingers, Pets at Home do a great spray for getting rid of urine smells, no matter what kind of 'animal' did it :)

Asda also do a Bob Martin one...

Which ever you use, remember to blot. Don't rub with a cloth, or you will have an even more noticable patch of raised fuzzy fibres on your carpet when it is all dry.

You can do gentle circular movements with an old toothbrush...this works it into the carpet fibre without raising the nap.

Loads of cheap kitchen roll to blot and blot and blot. Stand on it with your full weight!

    Hi Guys,

I have a bit of a problem with my hall carpet! I rested a bin bag on the carpet for me to take out to my communial bins. As it it was first thingin the morning I thought I would take it out on my way to work. So I did that but when I got home from work the most horrid:eek: smell is coming from the carpet were the bin bag has leaked:eek: it smells like gone wrong fish !!!!!!!  , I have spend the last two night scrubbing the smell with disinfectdant (sorry can't spell) and carpet cleaner. and it just wont go  it has got better but it's stinks still. The carpet is not like normal pile carpet but more like carpet tiles you get in offices.....Has anyone got any advice or ideas so I can try and get rid of it!!!!!!

    Thanks Ladies and Gents

Presumably the smell is from organic matter (food). Try using a liquid BIOLOGICAL washing liquid. the enzymes will literally 'eat' the organic matter and get rid of the smell. Failing that you could try a special spray designed to get rid of pet 'accident' smells, or a neuetraliser spray from Boots or any supermarket. (Oust or similar):A

Please please does anyone have ideas how to freshen carpets , I have two, one I think has had milk spilled on it .. The other smells of urine ,!!! Thanks everyone :)
  • Biological soap powder is fab on getting carpets clean!

When my dogs were puppies it was the only thing that shifted pee. It was recomended by a dog trainer, as it completely removes the smell so they don't go back to the same spot thinking its their loo.

Months later when I finally ventured into the spare bedroom A.K.A. The Junk Room to declutter, I discover a "present" and a large stain on the carpet (eeeew! ) but a good soaking with hot water and Daz and it was like new (so much so that I had to eventually clean the whole carpet!:o )

    Hope that helps!

Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before
