Shall I dare go to Santander?

Good morning all,

Been thinking for weeks about applying for the Santander £100 switch and 5% interest. I know they are currently the worst bank for customer service in recent polls, But I did see they have improved a little. They obviously have one of the best rates on the market for switching incentives and interest. Has anyone had any experiences of successful switching and are happy with Santander? I recently opened a Flexible isa with them @ rate of 3.15% of which is decent and have had no problems in opening the account and registration. I also thought there online banking is ok it's not the best by far but it's ok. I would really appriciate your comments and opinions and experiences.:)

Yes, my switch was reasonably successful. No, I was not at all happy with them, and once I had got the bonus I moved everything back to a 'proper' bank.

Even with the negativity they get, It's still very tempting to click those buttons. I could be the lucky one that has a very smooth process or just another statistic. If I do go ahead and open the account has anyone got any tips to ensure it is as smooth as poss? Obviously The customer plays a part but the buck stops with the bank.

I have left them today! - I've gone to First Direct, they have a £100 incentive too, an 8% regular saver account and excellent customer service. Don't do it, they just took 3 weeks to return a cheque for £6k to me uncashed after telling me they hadn't received it - aaarrggh
If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try - oh bu99er that just cheat :D

Just keep your other bank account for your day to day needs, transfer £1k in and out each month and have 2 dd's set up with santander.

If this is all you use it for, I fail to see what issue you will have.

This is all I do and have had no problems at all.

Anyone contemplating opening an account with Santander let alone actually doing it should be sentenced to life without parole no appeal in an asylum. You can join me there  I'll repeat what I've said previously, worst banking experience in 37 years. The risks to get £100 plus better interest simply are not worth it.

What about the other direct debits & standing orders? I have around 10 no?

We moved from Nationwide (who now pay zero on their current account) everything went competely smoothly, got our £100 and using it to get the 5%.

However, my OH attempted to open a business account but they lost the paperwork!
