If someone offered you a STD and £100 would you go for it?

Excellent. Certainly one of the most apt I've heard to date :o

Seriously though, stay as far away from them as possible. If you want a £100 incentive move to First Direct.

8% AER on the regular saver with FD, too

Does anyone know if you have to have your salary paid in the account? If I was to apply being an existing isa customer would I need to declare on the application that I'm a santander customer?

I wish I had read this before switching to Santander, I am now really worried about holding my main account with them. The switching process is happening at the moment, I tried to cancel but Santander said no, it was impossible to cancel the switching process. So I am now going to use this account until I get the £100 and then go back to my old Natwest account, even if it does mean setting up all my direct debits again.

Well, I have had. I shant go into detail, but they breached the DPA at least half a dozen times - some instances serious. They also breached the lending code, and their own T&C several times. Not to mention the rudest, most patronising, and ignorant branch staff I have every come across in my life.

I went in there one day years ago, when they were still Abbey (but after having been bought out) and asked for an overdraft.

The lady... Laughed at me. She didn't check my account, didn't ask any questions, just laughed, and said something like "Overdrafts have to be repaid you know, we only offer facilities like that to customers who can do that" over the top of her glasses.

I demanded to see her manager, who saw that not only had I been pre-approved for a £2,250 overdraft but also a mortgage upto £140,000 - which I subsequently took out without being subject to a credit check.

They really shouldn't have pre-approved me for that mortgage - nor should I have taken it out - check my sig :(

Ah what it was to be a naive teenager :o

EDIT: It's funny you know, if that hadn't happened, and she had just put on the £500 OD I'd asked for, I'd never had seen the manager... Never had been given the hard sell about a pre-approved mortgage that I couldn't afford, and in all probability, wouldn't have ended up Bankrupt years ago.

Still, I am much the wiser, stronger, and financially stable man for it.

Okay Just to update the thread. I have applied for the Santander account £100 switch + 5%. I have a very open mind and I know what to expect but I'm holding out to be the lucky switcher. I may regret switching I may not and I'm recording everything I do and will do my upmost to keep on top and try and make sure everything goes smoothly but I know most of it is out of my hands.

Just spoke to Santander in ref to applying for the account. The lady has said it's been passes to the under writers? Any ideas in what this means? Is it likely the account won't be openend?

I think they do this as a matter of course.

I applied March 3rd and the switch started that day. I have however switched all direct debits and standing orders back over to Natwest.

I wanted to give Santander the benefit of the doubt, however a simple call to them on the day I got my paperwork frustrated me so much that I am closing the account. It isnt worth the £100 to me. They also refuse to give me a chequebook (i need 1 for paying nursery fees) even though I was told by 2 different people I would get one. Thankfully I didnt close the Natwest account and will continue to use that for the time being.

I really hope all goes well for you with Santander, they cant mess it up all the time!
