It is really interesting to see how important holidays are to other people. Many of my work colleagues don't tend to take many holidays and most of them have a week abroad in the summer (usually booked just a few weeks in advance). It isn't that they can't afford to go but it just isn't high up on their list of priorities. Sometimes I feel like Judith Chalmers compared to them.

Used to be the one fortnight a year and maybe a couple of UK weekend breaks. Now it's turned into my main priority.

I go on singles hols through lack of partner and friends with same interests etc. so they can be very pricey. There is no such thing as a bargain I'm afraid but hey ho. I could go totally solo and do DIY flights and hotel etc. but I like the company of others and have met loads of interesting people over the years.

    Recently I went:

Nov 2009 Marsa Alam, Egypt one week
April 2010 Transylvania Romania five days
June 2010 Gulet holiday Turkey one week
Sept 2010 Kenya safari and beach two weeks

    This year:

April 2011 Thailand Island hopping Andaman Islands two weeks
    Sept 2011 Jamaica ten days

I turned 40 last year and decided I needed to travel more, Turkey was a fave destination but I was missing out on seeing other places. I prefer to go with a group of strangers than just find some acquaintance who happens to be available at the same time as me. My last boyfriend must've let me down on 3 hols where I ended up copping for the cancelled deposit charges so no more!

I'm single and always found that by the time I put a roof over my head, paid the bills and got to/from work and fed myself beans, there was no money left over for fripperies like holidays.

    I've never been abroad.

My last holiday was in about 1995, a week in Cornwall in a rented flat - and I got the sofa in the living room to sleep on as it was a 1-bed flat.

I have been very lucky over the years and been in the position to go on several holiday each year last year husband and I went
to Thailand in dan for three weeks
Kos in May with sisters her partner and kids
Egypt with niece and my son in July
Dominican republic in august for three week with husband
Mexico in Jan this year for 3weeks with husband

I love holidays ever since my first one at abroad at 21 generally we tend to do 2 longhaul in jan and august. And then two one week holidays as well either Egypt or turkey ect. Iwould love to be a travel agent as i get a real buzz out of planning holidays
I have been spoilt with holidays but its the one thing I'm happy to spend money on
I also like to take my sister husband and her kids away once a year as she can't always afford to
I'm supposed to going to Egypt In may with my niece abut not sure cos of all the problems there at the moment
And my son has beaten me to my ultimate trip of Kenya with his school on safari and community school project for three weeks in July.

As many as my work holidays will allow

with mates into europe 2-3 nights once a year minimum
stag do's 1-3 a year (although non last year or this so far Gutted
    ;0(

i always aim to have my next trip booked before i come back,

so far booked 2 long weekends
    helsinki/tallinn June with OH,
    gothenburg/copenhagen (with mates)
camping snowdonia with oh and friends
and 20 days in India / Nepal (delhi to Kathmandu 15 day road trip) :j

was planning a trip to jordan and egypt in nov with my brother an a mate, but likely to go 6 months after full peace restored after elections

last year, just bought a house so had a real cheap 10 day holiday to Bulgaria (sofia, bansko, plovdiv, varna, istanbul) Brilliant
and then went to amalfi in October

If you are "Dink"y you need to see the world before kids come along.
Once you have kids holidays treble in price, I never fly half term key school holidays

    2007 i had a good year
    argentina,chile,uruguay,newyork,iceland,milan,czech republic,switzerland,austria,slovenia,venice,latvia,estonia,berlin, seville, dublin
(i was in between jobs so could afford the holiday)

Ps. Charlea good on you, an impressive list. If you've got the cash and the free holiday why not..
although i must admit i've spent more time in scotland and the UK, this economy needs boosting..

The number varies but it's 4 to 5 weeks total. Last year it was 4 short haul trips of about a week each. This year it's two long haul plus maybe a Christmas market trip in December, wrong type of snow permitting.

Whilst finance is a constraint, time is a bigger one. And once fully retired time will cease to be a constraint but finance will be a big one.

I rather fancy this: http://www.polarcruises.com/arctic/destinations/north-pole_14.htm for example but at $23000 plus air fare to Helsinki it's a non-starter
