According to my online banking, Barclays has released details of their new ISA. 3.25% AER. No transfer from previous years allowed. 1% bonus fixed for 12 months.

This, according to a quick check, puts them straight to the top of the variable rate accounts.

It appears as an available account to apply for within Barclays' online banking. Their public website hasn't been updated yet. Consider this an exclusive ;)
  • oooo sound good, pitty i havent got any money to fund it though

    Doesn't allow transfers in though.

And given that I'm getting 3.2% on the rest of my ISA money from Halifax, it's not worth the extra 0.05% (£2.67) to open the Barclays one; might as well just keep it together.
  • Hi,

I am not a current Barclays customer, but it says on their website that you can apply for this ISA in a bank. Does anyone know if you are able to manage this ISA online after you have done the initial opening in the branch?

    Thanks!

    Hi,
Yes you can, you can deposit more into it online, however you may need to be a barclays customer with a current account, this was the case for me and I could easily add funds to it.

If they won't accept transfers from another ISA, what do I do with my old ISA? Will I lose the tax benefit if I cash it in?

You can leave it where it is, move it to another provider or pick an ISA for this year that accepts transfers in.

If you take it out in cash then yes it will lose its tax free status.

I only get the option to open one for the 2010/11 year - if I open this one can I start putting money into it after 6th April?

You need to open it with £1 min, so if you've paid into an ISA already this year you can't open it until 6th April. Last year's (Golden ISA issue 2) was available for a while after this date - I opened mine on April 30th.
