I was advising Inactive to ask a DSA. I don't need to as I am fully aware when it is necessary to indicate.

    What is a DSA?

The DSA are the responsible body for overseeing driving standards, they also control the ADI Register of Approved Driving Instructors.

They set the driving standards as detailed in the Highway Code.

You don't indicate to pull back in after overtaking on a normal 2 lane road and you don't indicate to do exactly the same on a motorway. End of story...

I quite often do, especially where I'm overtaking a long line of traffic and I need to pull in due to oncoming traffic or lack of visibility, the person I'm pulling in front of needs to know what I'm about to do so they don't decide to suddenly speed up (for example)

I don't know where you live, but around here people speeding up when being overtaken is a given.... Literally everyone does it. Indicating is not going to make any difference whatsoever if someone is stupid enough to block you in the first place.

That of course would be seen as dangerous driving. Unless I can overtake on a single carriageway when there is no imediate on-comming traffic and I can leave the overtaken car with ample room before I return back onto the left carriageway, I will indicate. If then the overtaken driver is stupid enough to increase speed and a collision occurs then it would be him at fault.

Ummm..... No it'll be you planted nose first into the oncoming car and said idiot driving off down the road unscathed. Unless you ram into the side of him of course. However if you do this and he catches your rear/side end, your going to go into a spin and possibly a barrel roll.

Genuinely not trolling here, BUT, are you suggesting that someone driving at the front of a queue of traffic, clear road ahead, CANNOT alter their speed if someone is overtaking that particular queue?
Personally if I was overtaking, I'd make sure I was in control of my own destiny, so had the clear distance ahead to pull out and a safe distance to pull back in.
I certainly wouldn't rely on the person at the front of a slow(IMO) moving queue NOT to raise their speed to max permissable as I'm coming from behind on the other side of the road. I'm not even sure if they're required to check their rear view mirror (although good practice) before putting their foot down?!?

Are you trying to describe a scenario where by the overtaken driver decides to 'race' the overtaking driver? I am referring to a legal overtaking manouvre where one car overtakes another who is doing below the relevant speed limit. In any event, my car is more than capable of getting me out of such a situation. I havn't got time to get into arguments about such idiotic drivers who should'nt be on the road in the first place. This thread is about motorway driving so shall we stick to that topic?

I do most of my overtaking on the A19 north of York. And I occasionally get problems but to be fair most of the time if I overtake the overtakee gives me room. The most I've had is them suddenly 'wake up' and them overtake me back at the next straight!

    Agree'd

I was simply making reference to how motorway overtaking is no different to any normal road.
People don't generally race on motorways in the same way they do on any other road....... It comes down to our queueing mentality, from the retards POV motorways have 3 lanes, or 3 queues. Regular roads have 1 lane, 1 queue and if your at the back your at the back and should stay there.

2 lane motorways are even worse. You've basically got a long stream of traffic in Lane 2, with a smattering of lorries in Lane 1.

Occasionally a Lane 2 driver will get fed up and decide to scoot down Lane 1, however 9 times out of 10 they don't end up making any progress up the queue.
