Motorway driving

Motorway = 1 lane + 2 overtaking lanes
Mirrors, signal, manoeuvre.
Not
Mirrors, signal, manouvre, signal.
You don't indicate to pull back in after overtaking on a normal 2 lane road and you don't indicate to do exactly the same on a motorway. End of story...“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Many people do, so the motorway example is merely and extension of this.0 -

OK seeing as you asked, I had this discussion with a senior driving examiner several years ago, as always there is never a definite answer, it always depends on circumstances at the time.
During a normal overtaking manoeuvre it is considered unnecessary to signal as the vehicle you have overtaken is already aware that you will pull back in, you are hardly going to carry on driving on the wrong side of the road.
On motorways and dual carriageways the normal driving lane is the left hand lane the other lanes are overtaking lanes so in a normal overtake it is still considered unnecessary to signal to complete the manoeuvre as you would be expected to return to the left hand lane, however as these are higher speed roads conditions may make it necessary to indicate to pull in, for example if another vehicle is coming up behind you at a faster speed than you as you are doing the manoeuvre then indicate to inform them of your intention to let them through or if in busy traffic conditions when changing lane could cause a hazard to vehicles in the lane you are changing into.
Called common sense and being aware of what is going around you.;)0 -

Signal unnecessary.or if in busy traffic conditions changing lane may cause a hazard to vehicles in the lane you are changing into.
Using indicators is not a defence to driving without reasonable consideration for other road users.Called common sense and being aware of what is going around you.;)
I agree with commonsense and traffic awareness. Not teaching people to drive without reasonable consideration for other road users.0 -

... But often conducive to maintaining a smooth flow of traffic.
What is necessary, and what is helpful, are not necessarily the same thing.0 -

Don't shoot the messenger you said ask a DSA instructor, I am only repeating a discussion and conversation with a senior driving examiner, it would seem you disagree with both.DirectDebacle wrote: »Using indicators is not a defence to driving without reasonable consideration for other road users.
No one said it was, but in busy conditions it makes other drivers aware that you wish to change lanes.0
