For one of my hampers i bought a lrge chocolate coloured basket/waste bin put in a chocolate throw a bottle of Champers but wine would do, a couple of nice glassses and a box of chocs. The throw was £5 from Matalan but if you shop around im sure you could get one cheaper.Looks really expensive.I did post some pics previously if you want to have a look but i must say it looks much nicer in the flesh so to speak will post again once its wrapped. This may be an idea for the parents of your sons girlfriend

See I wouldnt have thought of a couple of glasses. a throw & chocs !! u guys are amazing, I love the idea of that and it sounds like it would be perfect for her parents, already written that down on my 'to get' list for Thursday. Thank you Kizzy :)

Then I read your post Savvy and you got me thinking again lol To be honest I shouldnt buy them anything, last year nothing was given, (only to my son) but he 'wants' me to make more of an effort to get to know them (why me!) and I have always given without thinking about getting anything back. So I think I will go with Kizzys suggestion :)
For his girlfriend, I will check out Claire's (I know I have one near me) and she doesnt like sweets but likes Galaxy chocolate only and pamper is the way to go I think, she is turning into a proper young lady so she should appreciate and use it :D

Thank you all very much, I feel so excited about doing this, stupid I know but this is a biggy for me and a definite change from the norm.

I cant wait to go get the items now & post pics...roll on Thursday..I will be back :):)

    Hi folks

well i went for a wander this morning to our local garden centre/DIY store... and got a bargain :j

I got 2 baskets... a bit like the old school cookery/shopping basket - but more oval and shallow, a bit like a garden trug..... im doing mum a gardening hamper..so she will be able to use that to collect her veggies out of the garden:T , and the other is being turned into the german themed hamper for 1 brother and SIL... and they have an open fire, so i thought it would be able to use it to keep logs by the fire :T

they are 55cmX25cm and i got them for 5euros...roughly £3.50 each.. im soooo happy, and tomorrow we are off to get some bits to go in them... i would post a pic..but i don't know how :rotfl:

I also saw some raw wooden boxes with fitted lids, that i may be getting to do some smaller hampers... sweety one and a couple of "smelly" ones...
i can't believe how excited i am about doing these...and as soon as i get back from the UK in the new year im going to start getting bits in the sales for next year..ooh i have found a new hobby :D

LOL that's going to be difficult if they keep themselves to themselves! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Hope she's saying the same to her parents ;) Well least you've got something to go on now, shop wisely and you should be okay :D

someone posted about the boxes earlier and I was far too lazy to go find them so thanks a lot for the link :D

silverangel35 - I think that if you give them a present it kind of feels really good because it's like.. you have made the first move and you have done something to help your sons reputation for a few pounds if that makes sense. I bought a gorgeous expensive looking throw from Primark for £4 yesterday. Wishing you loads of luck with sorting it out. On the girlfriend front, when I was her age I used to love having my nails done. Could you make her the hamper with the claires and chocolate and pop in a gift vouche for a manicure. They do them by me for only £5.

    HTH
my baskets are in the attic.. i didnt think ahead about where I was going to bloomin put them once done and I had them loitering around ready for photographing when one fell onto the floor upside down ARGH!

    My basket filling ideas:

+In poundland and primark they do fleecy soft socks tied with organza ribbon they look really expensive and are just what any woman fancies on a cold winters night!

+hot chocolate drinking sachets and marshmallows

+ DO NOT buy Lindt chocolates, I did and the heat exploded them all over my gifts and up the wall!!

+ A fleece expensive looking throw primark £4

+ Tacky light-up christmas earrings for the spirit - poundland £1

+ Gorgeous bundles of bracelets tied with organza primark £1

Now I have wrote this I cant even remember what I bought!

    Dads Hamper
Black bucket as hamper - Poundland
Visor tissue holder - 0.99 - Home Bargains (used the packs of tissues to hold up the items in bucket)
Deal or no Deal Scratchcard £2 - WHSmiths (something exciting)
    Back to black restorer poundland
    Jumbo sponges poundland
    Polish and wax poundland
Pack of five socks £2 primark - opened them and arranged the socks hanging over the bucket
    Flying Saucers
I'm going to finish it off with a racing game for his Ps2 but they do nice slippers for just £4 in primark

    Moms Hamper
Baileys chocolate fountain (bought in 3 for 2 at boots) about £10 after offers
(Mom always does the buffet for everyone on boxing day and she'd love this)
Music and lyrics DVD £6 (she has wanted this for ages)
Soft wooly socks £1 reduced in next clearance centre
    christmas earrings poundland
    hair clips £1 primark

Oh i can't remember just wanted to blurb so that maybe i might trigger someone off to be inspired!!

  • for people still looking basket like items - they had wooden tubs in home bargains today with bath bits in it for £3.99. Figured some people could use the contents too for other gifts or keep for later in the yr.

Also in N.I Dunnes stores had £4 salad bowls/ fruit bowls which double as a great gift (i got one on their 20% off day).

What about a cava or a bucks fizz? Marks and spencer do a very cheap bucks fizz.
