Hi Cookiedough, love your latest basket! Re: charging for hampers I would meticulously work out howe much it has cost you in terms of materials to make it and add what you think is reasonable for your time for both making it and sourcing what to put in - you've got handmade stuff in there too haven't you so don't forget about your time making those items. Maybe add half of what it has cost you to make? Is that too low, should it be double, sorry not good with pricing! Does that help at all? If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0

Could I just ask for some ideas for a small gift box/hamper (it has to be posted) for a lady recovering from chemo for breast cancer. She is only 40.
As it would have to be posted the things would have to be quite light.
Thanks
Ohh, that's a difficult one. I think what you give depends on what kind of person your friend is. I found this site that may give you some ideas... http://www.cancergifts.com/index.php?page=baskets_women.php. These are big gifts but I hope there's something here that will give you an idea for a gift from you.

thanks rainmac, I was going to say half of what it cost me as well. I almost feel guilty for earning any money from it to be honest. I enjoyed making it so to earn a few extra pennies always helps!Debt free wannabe

useful things would be chewing gum, opal fruits - anything that makes the mouth less dry.
Perhaps a small bottle of a special cordial like elderflower.
also strong flavoured mints or sweets that help to alleviate the chemical taste.
does she have a CD or mp3 player? Something uplifting of her favourite music?
If she is still having chemo, perhaps a crossword book or wordsearch with a nice pen - whiles the time while you're stuck on the bed.0 -

Perhaps a pretty journal.... (it can be hard when you are suffering with cancer to share how you really feel - a journal can allow you to plot your journey and write down how you really feel without feeling a burden to friends and relatives - can be therapeutic).Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Hi everyone! I have been a lurker here for quite a while and think I am on the way to catching the bug!
Found something that I thought would be good for a tea lovers hamper - https://www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10051_47524_100_53605__category_
Bargain for a pound I thought. There is also a free P&P code on the discount code thread too!

Don't feel guilty at earning money from something you like doing. You have made a beautiful present that would have cost the customer so much more if it had been purchased from a shop! And yours wouldn't have been able to be bought as you've got handmade goodies in there, worth every penny and more I'd say:wave: If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0 -
Its official, I am hooked:o . Couldn't sleep last night so got back up and made my list/theme of what I wanted to put in each gift basket!!
So now I have my list/theme and I just need to look around ebay etc for some of the special bits, looks like lots of bits and bobs I should be able to get from local shops etc.
I worked out if I buy 2 or 3 items per week starting this week it will all be done for the week before christmas without me fighting my way through the crowds in town :j0 -
karen - thats exactly what I like about the idea of hampers, I can add bits and pieces to my food shopping and not notice the extra expense. Picking up a few bits here and there mean not last minute rush!Debt free wannabe

Hi cbsexec, if your pal is online, you could send an 'inspirational' e-mail every day....I'm thinking along the lines of "101 Things I like About You". Or perhaps write out seven at a time & put them into little envelopes marked Mon, Tues, etc & post them off once a week. Or how about a gift card for topping up her mobile phone so you could text her?
I think someone has a link to something similar, where the recipient takes out a slip of paper from a pretty jar....can you help me out here Mary--I've completely forgotton what they're called:oFull time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.
