It's my FIL's bithday next week and he is notoriously difficult to buy for. He likes liquorice so I've ordered lots of different liquorice sweets from an online sweet shop (nealy £15 inc p&p  ). Do you think these will be ok on their own in a basket wrapped in cello or is there anything natty I could add with the sweets/ different way of wrapping etc??? Is there a drink that tastes of liquorice? I'm stuck, the sweets are probably fine on their own but just wanted to ask you clever people if you had any ideas :D

Actually I think I may have anwered my own question :rotfl: , just received a parcel from postlady - box dominoes and 2 packs playing cards I ordered from Grab It Now site for £1.67. When I ordered the dominoes I has Xmas for FIL in mind so I could add these to the sweets and I think that would do. What do you think?

Hi Rainmac, depends how clever you are feeling and also how much time you have ... you could get different colours of cellophane and wrap each different kind of liquirice in different colours but in the shape of a sweet? i.e tied each end? then put in a hamper, or you could buy a box with lid for them, or even a cello bag so it looks like he is getting a bag of sweets? I personally would leave the cards and dominoes out and put them away for christmas :)

Thanks bun bun, he has only been at the school since March (we moved house) so wanted something small yet functional which looked nice ... He wants to make her some cakes aswell, but I may just let him make a chocolate slab for her instead :)

Thanks Rusty, the sweets are going to come in little stripey bags (old fashioned sweet shop type of effect!). Got about 9-10 different types of liquorice sweets so I think you're right I can afford to leave the card set out :D . Should have a basket knocking around I can use and have ordered some lime colured cello recently so may use that to wrap to make it look a bit different.

    Thanks again :D

You don't have to like them - the person you are giving them to does;)
