Well I made my first hamper today for the elderly lady next door.

Only cost £4 in total and that included the basket.

Basket for hamper - Au naturele 99p
mini pots of jam - morrisons - 5 for £1 or 25p each
    shortbread biscuits - morrisons 79p
    2 x ovaltine sachets BOGOF - Morrisons - 25p
    2 x horlicks sachets BOGOF - Morrisons - 25p
Small bag of lavender pot pourri - part of £1 gift set from lloyds chemist
Mug with spoon in handle - Au Naturele - 50p in sale.

I didn't bother to wrap it as I knew she would struggle to open it so just let my son knock on the door and give it to her ... she was almost in tears bless her. :)

Yes bunbun it was me who mentioned the metro centre had a closing down sale. Not sure about Durham as I have never ventured up that far as yet (only moved here middle of march) I would presume they all have a closing down sale though as I know metro centre and the one in Blyth are - the one in Blyth is quite big! There is a thread about au naturele in the grabbit section about them closing down maybe you could ask in there.

yes first hamper :D to be honet after seeing some of the pictures on here I knew it was something I had to do ... hooked of course ;) 2 more hampers in the process of being made up for fathers day for my partner and for my father in law aswell :D

Thanks Rainmac, the cups with the spoons vary in price but a lot of them are reduced from £3 - £4 and now most have £1 sale stickers on them ... the one I bought also had a £1 sale sticker on and went through the till at 50p.

I also bought a set of 3 rush baskets in a deep brown wicker they were reduced from £15 to £9.99 but went through the till at £6.99 and all 3 are quite big, ideal for the 2 hampers I am in the middle of finding bits for.

Aww:o I see I'm too late with my suggestion of that stuff you can put into a baby's bath water to encourage sleep RustyFlange.... it's J&J who make it but probably there's shop's own versions.

I've 2 red wine & 2 brandy glasses that were going cheap. Hopefully the mechanical 'artist' of the offspring will etch different peeps names into them for me, with one of those little hand-held drill thingies. I'm thinking of doing the font on the poota & that should sit into the bowl of the glass to help keep size & spacing equal, & perhaps a few :starmod: :staradmin or summat. That's three people sorted & a spare:D

I really must get on with the sock bouquet cuz it's needed for next month:doh:& I want to see what size they are so I can find something to put them in, if they're gunna look stoopid in one of the brandy glasses.

BigMumma, it wasn't for my baby ... both of my children (age 5 and almost 1) sleep soundly it was for the elderly lady next door, she is 78 and since loosing her husband a few years ago hasn't slept well. I spoke to her yesterday and she used the lavender bag at the side of her bed and had a cup of horlicks and she said she slept all night til 5am when she had to go to the toilet, she also said that she hadn't slept like that for years!!! I guess my hamper did some good :)

A set of 3 for £2.99 and their really big our poundland has a little section of things for a couple of pounds and i couldn't leave without them. Is it just me but i buy things and i want to keep them! their to good for anyone else. I wish i had a friend that does hampers so i could receive one. Do you think it would be really sad to make myself one from my DS for my birthday in june ;)

Rustyflange did you get your baskets from B-O-T store Au naturele their really good value as they were £4 shame its closing but hope to get some more good bargains before they go.
