I've also been inspired by this thread and I'm in the process of buying items for the 5 hampers I'm doing. I'm using a black bucket for the car inspired one I'm doing for my dad (£1 in Poundland); an ice bucket for the wine inspired one for my bro-in-law (£6.99 from The Range) and for the others, I found baskets in the 99p store.
They're called laundry baskets but they're not as ridiculously big as they sound and *very* cheap.0 -
I bought a large brown basket (looks v expensive) in Au Naturel for £4.50 - a little more than I wanted to pay, but perfect for the house of my Mum who has a cream and brown room and living room - so can be used in there too.. It is massive and now just got to get some inspiration on what to put in it......... she is a real person who has a need for nothing but likes practical gifts and not a "waste of money" gift, doesnt wear much makeup, toiletries are bought from avon (which i do) so I have decided to compile a list of consumables that she uses all the time (eg. nail varnish remover, handcream, her hair colouring etc. )
and things i know she WILL use and DOES use, and whilst they might look naff on their own...im determined to make a lush hamper for her out of them!
Just an idea for people who like practical gifts I suppose??

I got 3 pink baskets tucked inside each other from sperdrug ages ago & have finally got round to filling them.
Nail set for mum in law. Varnishes/top coats tc, file, clippers, hand cream & pulse point thingymjiggy! All from Boots clearance in Jan/Feb & cost no more than £5 in total.
For my niece a 'so' gift set that cost £2 which had perfume, small pink denim bag, body spray & hand lotion. And a pair of socks that were £1 clearance in Claires.
My friend is having a baby in Nov. This lilac outfit was £1!!!! when Mothercare cleared off their Okaidi stock. Theres a matching coat that was £1 under the outfit too. The johnsons stuff was on 2 for £4 in Boots so those 3 cost me £4.50 & nappies were just over £3. I had a coupon that gave me 500 advantage points when I got this too so was very pleased!!
All the baskets have lids. Shall I package them nicely, put lid on & wrap or spend some money on cellaphane & ribbon. What d'ya reckon?
I've typed this lot out twice now - the first lot disappeared into internet land. Fingers crossed this stays!!!Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

I have had quite a few baskets from Morrisons, recently bought a couple with hinged lid to use for shoes in the hall I think they were £8.0 -
Made a basket for my 18yo son last Christmas. He loves pizzas
so I put in pizza bases, tomato puree, herbs, pizza plate and cutter. Added cheese, ham, pineapple chunks etc just before wrapping on Chistmas Eve. He had great fun cooking pizzas. Ever had them for tea on Christmas Day??????
We are all swans. Serene on top- but paddling like fury underneath.:smileyhea0
