  • This thread has gone quiet now. I enjoyed reading all 85 pages and now have 7 baskets waiting for me to add the cellaphane, think you can say I have truly been inspired!

    Friends 40th
    Daughters 21st
    Baby basket
    Sisters birthday
    Male friend

Also bought some Christmas boxes in Wilkinson's today, they were marked 75% off £4.00 but went through the till at 50p each, got 5 round (hat box) and 3 tall square ones (thought I would use these like a stocking and fill with lots of small gifts for the men in my family). At this rate I will have Christmas sown up by Easter!!

The boxes were a great price! I had a look in my local wilko a few weeks ago and they were all gone!

Please post some photos of your hampers! I am doing a baby hamper at the moment so it would be nice to have some more ideas. :j

Spotted on email from Matalan (also available to buy online but not sure if you need to be a cardholder).

Chalkboard storage boxes (these have a blackboard on them - might be handy for kids) - cost £3 - also have a 3 for 2 offer

Bamboo storage from £4 - also on 3 for 2 offer (save up to £25)

White Willow storage from £3 - again on 3 for 2 offer (save £3).

Hope this helps those looking for cheap baskets for use throughout the year.

I think it was on this thread that someone mentioned wrapping their baskets in voile rather than cellophane so that the gifts wouldn't be seen so clearly.
Well, I've got some voile curtains that don't fit, then I bought another piece this morning that was really cheap..........OH asked me how I was going to do it and I had to admit I didn't really know.
Is the wrapping supposed to go round the outside of the basket or go from the bottom inside and then tied with a ribbon at the top..............? Hope I've explained that ok so you know what I mean.
I don't think there were any photos of it done, just photos of those done with cellophane. I'm thinking birthdays at the moment for this voile.

I used voile on a couple of my baskets - what I did was pull the voile up in the same way as the cellophane and secured it with an elastic band. I then covered the band with the coloured ribbon. I trimmed the over long piece of voile and it looked fab.

Thanks Sarah. To add to the voile now I've bought a lovely silky scarf for one of my ex foster girls (she's married now).
It's a very dark brown with gold panels at each end and I've done her birthday basket in shades of coffee and cream so I think that'll finish it off nicely.
I'm longing to actually finish it but I keep finding little cheapy things to add to it. Went to the local church sale this morning and bought loads of cheap bits and pieces, two of which were coffee scented candles so they'll go in her basket.

hi, feel free to 'virtually' slap my wrists, hands or bum, cos I looked at the pic of a nappy cake on here, thought it was nice but a bit American and nobody in Ireland would go for it, consequently didn't do one for my bil's new baby girl. Went window shopping yesterday and went into a seriously expensive gift shop (just to see how the other half live), what was on sale? Nappy cakes!!! And they were charging €120 (about £80). And yours looked much nicer, am truly kicking myself for not having a go.
