*There's no yeast in my recipe as I used the 'ready steady cook' method of making a thin, crisp base - you make the dough with 100g flour and a little oil and water, roll it out very thin, dry fry it for 2-3mins on both sides, then top and bake in a hot oven for 5-10 mins, depending on your toppings.

Hi- Can you talk me through that a bit more !! I make my own pizza dough with yeast, flour, olive oil and it has to sit and rise for eons which is why we don't have it that often as it has to be done in advance,

So if there is an "instant" piza base that would be great !

The above sounds very very simple - is that really it ?
It's not paranoia if they really are after you.

Madmonkey, I found the method in the Complete Cooking Collection on here under 'quickest pizza ever':

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=556479#post556479

Probably it would cause an Italian to cry their eyes out, I, however, can rarely plan enough to do the proper (admittedly delicious) Marcella Hazan method which take 3 hours. My advice would be to add water and oil a little dribble at a time, kneading gently until the dough reaches a soft elastic consistency and then try to roll it out on a floured surface. (It should form a ball but not be sticky.) I really did have a tasty pizza in about 15mins.

The Mediteranean vegetable pizza from Iceland is exceptional :o (my one weakness!)
Mine too. :D It's reserved for a once in a while treat tho. Maybe one every couple of months.
    Take the first step.

    Just take the first step.

I can't actually remember the last time I had it and no chance now - diet starts tomorrow!

This thread has inspired me to cost the pizza I made for myself last night:

    100g flour* - 3p
100ml olive oil (for base and sauce) - 30p
Third of a tin of tomatos - 10p
2 cloves of garlic for sauce (I love garlic!) - 6p
50g cheddar (not Italian but I love salty pizza toppings!) - 35p
    1 small onion - 3p

So the basic pizza came to 87p, it would have been 10p less if I had used the same quantity of mozarella, as I did cheddar, based on the prices above.

This wasn't the pizza I ate however - I added some whole black olives (I hate stoned, sliced olives that you get on pizza chain pizzas - they're so bland!) and some chorizo (told you I liked them salty!) which bumped up the cost of the pizza to a shocking.... £1.54!

I've just looked up the ingredients in a supermarket premium range pizza and they seem fine - and cost twice as much as mine even though they are currently on offer. The ingredients in a 99p cheese and tomato economy pizza are less reassuring:

"Wheat Flour, Tomato Puree (31%), Mozzarella Medium Fat Soft Cheese (12%), Cheddar Cheese (8%), Vegetable Oil, Yeast, Modified Maize Starch, Salt, Sugar, Wheat Starch, Malt Flour, Dried Basil, Black Pepper, Preservative (calcium Propionate), Emulsifiers (mono-and Di Glycerides Of Fatty Acids, Sodium Stearoyl-2-lactylate), Flour Treatment Agent (ascorbic Acid)."

I'm not obsessive about additives but I really don't think I need to eat the highlighted items on the list above.

Thanks for this, Glad to know homemade pizza came in cheaper, and I totally agree the ingreadients are rather shocking!!!! The debate is therefore without a doubt HOMEMADE!!!!, many thanks, better get some mozz, cheese in!!:j

Made two nice pizzas totally from scratch tonight.

    Mozzarella & prosciutto.

The mozzarella was about a £1 & the prosciutto was on offer about £1.30.

I made a sauce with a can of tinned toms, garlic, basil & salt & pepper 0.60p
Sliced red onion & a jar of sun dried tomatoes about £2.

So I guess they cost near enough £5 to make & thats without the bases factored in.
They were really lovely but you could buy cheaper.

Even Pizza Express ones in Sainsburys would be cheaper if on offer.

I've always found Pizza Express pizzas to be... awful... they taste like cardboard!

When I make my pizzas myself for the topping:

    for 2 pizzas:

    2x mozerella balls (49p each)
1x tub passata (39p) - only use 1/3 of tub - other 2/3 for a bolognese or something

other toppings, e.g. onion, salami etc.

    Really really cheap :)

Yeah I guess it was the prosciutto & sun dried toms that pushed it up.
