This is really naughty of Citibank if this is the case and they have re submitted credit agreements for "all" of their past and present account holders. Needs bringing to their attention asap or at least the FSA
  • Well, I've spoken to them. They initially confirmed my account was closed last year and it was nothing to do with them.
Of course, we've now crosschecked and the account number is the same. So slowly we got to the conclusion that this them.

Anyway, they have since had more calls about this and are investigating. But they have called back to confirm it was them and it is a mistake rather than anything fraudulent.
    Hope this helps people.

I'm so annoyed about this. I can't believe they've taken out a credit agreement without my permission. The only positive thing I can say right now is the guy who I've been dealing with has been pretty helpful. I'll update if I find out any more.

I too have got this alert. - I have a capital one card with the free equifax account as well My card's number bears no relation to the number given and i have no others. A big thankyou to op and others for posting.
at least i know i am not on my own
Sorry if this earlier post confused anyone! I wrote earlier that i only had a capital one c.c. and to the best of my knowledge that was true..... however I did have a Citicard that was cancelled 2 years ago!! seems like its come back to life. NOT Happy
It is better to contemplate writing a malicious comment that can make you appear stupid, than to write and confirm it.

I too have had one of these alerts. I contacted Citibank who passed me onto Opus. 0207 871 0464.

After initially denying it was anything to do with them - they realised they had had more than one call about the same thing today and have now stated they have started an investigation and will ring me back when they know more. They did confirm that the account was a closed one, transferred from Citibank to Opus some months ago.

I called Opus and was told Equifax were informed because my account was just updated?! They said this has happened to a number of customers and they have added me to their list to call back to give me a reason why this has happened.

Wonder if one could claim compensation for having an extra entry on their credit report? I'm just about to apply for a mortgage and another entry is not what I need right now!

Thank you MSE and others for this thread!

I would have been going round in circles trying to figure the BHAP0013 on equifax!

Same issue - got this equifax alert this morning.

My Citi account had a small credit. This was transferred to Opus.
Opus earlier confirmed to me that there was no card issued as it was a dormant account.
They have since credited my bank account with a small amount and closed the opus account.
So why do I have this alert and new agreement !?

    Will be calling Opus now.

    Thanks!

    Update:

Spoke to Opus.. the rep seemed to be aware of this issue.
He asked for the company name appearing on the alert (i.e BHAP0013) and said someone will call me back.
He confirmed that my account was closed.

Interestingly, the account number on the alert XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX28
was not my account number at Opus.. So not sure what they are upto!

Could those affected please clarify a few things:

    1. What is the start date of the account showing as on Equifax? Recent or years ago?
    2. What is the limit showing as? Your old limit or £0?
    3. What is the account history status showing as? Blank, "U"s, or "0"s?

Knowing the answers to these questions will clarify whether the entries are tantamount to defamation.

  • I have just phones Opus, who have told me taken my details and said that they will be calling everyone back as soon as possible - the lady on the phone mentioned that it might be today but she didn't want to promise anything.
My Citi account was closed last June!!!!!!!

This concerns me as I used to have a Shell Citi card which I settled in Jan 2010, I only have access to Experian CreditExpert at present and this card is still showing as settled.

Has anyone seen evidence of it re-activating on Experian or is just showing up on Equifax so far?

I don't really want to pay to see my Equifax report (already done the free trial months ago).

    Thanks

Mine is correctly showing as a settled account. Showing the account as settled/cancelled in August 2010 so thankfully it would appear (contrary to the credit alert) it is not a new credit card account and OPUS have not reinstated my card/credit limit/account. It is simply reporting my credit status for that account from back when it was active.

This could have been made much more easy to understand on the original credit alert from equifax though, i'm sure i'm not the only one who feared the worst.
