Without wishing to sound overly harsh, OP needs to man the fcuk up tbh.
Only 4 hours a day work. Hardly the labours of Hercules. So you come in 20 mins early to open up, so what? Is the practice going to open itself? MANY people go above and beyond the call of duty in their work.
Instead of putting in a little extra effort, cultivating a good relationship between you and the bosses resulting in a potential long term position/good reference all I'm hearing is moan moan moan. Imagine if you had to do some proper graft at some point.
Regarding the toilet situation, are you stating you can't go four hours without visiting? Remind me how old you are?
If you are the only one 'front of house' of course you'll need to ask someone to cover before you go sit in the toilet for 20 mins.
Sort yourself out.Hi Jenny (I'm new here)
Personally I would go and see my GP and explain your situation and how it is making you ill.
Ask for a sick note. .

All aboard the fail train.
This is one of the worst pieces of advice I have ever read on this forum and an scathing demonstration of the kind of work ethic shown by many nowadays. Poor, poor form indeed.0 -
Although I agree that anxiety and depression are not the same as being unhappy at work, if you are suffering from these, being unhappy at work can exacerbate them and slow up your recovery.
However, I don't think the OP is depressed and anxious in a medical sense, she is just unhappy at work. I think she should look for another job, but not just walk out of this one.
The practice manager's management style may be lacking, but it IS her job to train others up and point out where they have gone wrong. Also, there should be no need to go to the toilet during a four hour shift, but if you do need to and you are the receptionist then of course you have to ask someone to cover. Maybe it was happening too often and the practice manager got annoyed.
How do you think other people manage? There are many jobs where you can't just leave your post to go to the toilet without making arrangements.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I don't think I could go 4 hours without the need to pee.
Also, I agree the OP my not be depressed or suffer anxiety attacks but to come here and ask for advice she must have been pretty well desperate and beside herself with unhappiness.
It isn't rocket science to know that many, many people end up with anxiety due to extreme unhappiness in the workplace.
I think if you were to search for some statistics you might find that mental health issues are somewhere at the top of reasons for people taking time off work alongside back problems?????0 -
hahahaha not sure what went wrong there, seems my post got lost in cyberspace.
Will try again... it went along the lines....
I don't think I could go 4 hours without the need to pee.
Also, I think if you were to search for statistics, you would probably find that anxiety and other mental related illnesses are somewhere at the top of the list for reasons people take time off sick.
Just how much pressure, feelings of unhappiness etc. someone can take differs from one person to the next.
Just like pain threshold.
Plus, none of us know the whole story of the OP, only what she has said here.
How do we know she hasn't got a bladder problem? How do we know if she hasn't suffered a mental illness in the past?
Just because the OP feels she can't cope after 4 weeks working with people that shout at her (extremely unprofessional of management) and in front of others too is shameful!
This is in the workplace, not the classroom for goodness sake.0 -
Aha! my original post has arrived back from cyberspace lol0

Are you 11 years old?
That would go some way to explaining the rest of your ramblings. Also, I agree the OP my not be depressed or suffer anxiety attacks but to come here and ask for advice she must have been pretty well desperate and beside herself with unhappiness.

The OP has been at work for 1 month, she has to show up 20 mins early and has to ask to go to the toilet. It's hardly the slave labour.
Grounds for depression? Grounds for a sick note? Sort yourself out.0 -

If people can last for 4 hours without a pee then they aren't drinking enough water. I drink around 2 litres a day and need to go to the loo every 2 to 3 hours.0 -

I do know this. My husband had to take early retirement due to long-standing mental health problems. His job did not cause this, but certainly the stress of it added to his problems.
I just think that severe mental health problems do not apply in the OP's case.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Are you 11 years old? Why are you? Your personal attacks are the behaviour of a teenage delinquent
Actually I have a bladder problem after having an hysterectomy!
That would go some way to explaining the rest of your ramblings.
Ramblings are much more fun than personal attacks wouldn't you say?
The OP has been at work for 1 month, she has to show up 20 mins early and has to ask to go to the toilet. It's hardly the slave labour.
She was being shouted at in front of staff and patients or did you only read the bits you wanted to?
Grounds for depression? Grounds for a sick note? Sort yourself out.
I think you might find I am more sane than you, I'm not the one coming here and making personal attacks on people I don't know!
Have a nice weekend :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Yes I realised that after I posted the wrong advise and someone pointed it out to me. However, I do think the OP must have been getting herself in quite a state to come here and ask for help.
I do hope your husband is making a recovery. Mental illness is a terrible thing :-(0
