I'll say it again:
OP - if you are expected to be at your desk working for time beyond that for which you are paid, and if that extra time takes you below NMW for the hours you work INCLUDING the extra time, then this is ILLEGAL.
Regardless of whether you like the job or not, you must sort out being paid at least NMW for the hours you are spending working.0 -

It should make no difference but hey its you being taking for a mug not me.0 -
Given the high turnover of staff there does seem to be a problem somewhere - not of the OP's making.
Most workplaces offer some sort of assessment particularly in the early weeks for there to be feedback from both sides when perhaps you can put your side. Otherwise if you can hang on until something else turns up just grin & bare it. Other than that if they are going to reduce your hours, ask that they reduce your days, as going in to work @ £4 a day makes not much sense of you are only there for a couple of hours.Truth always poses doubts & questions. If at 1700 thre was still a customer waiting to be seen, I saw them, I didn't just leave them and go home.
This is just good customer service and would be expected in any customer-facing environment.
I work in a sports centre that opens at 0600. Because I need to be there before the customers, I turn up at 0530 on the dot, and am paid for it.
I am not going to work for free, I have 2 jobs and appreciate my time too much.
20 mins unpaid work, 5 times a week, 50 weeks a year is 83 hours. If you work at NMW that is £500!

Healthy adults aren't children who have to pop to the loo all the time; it's called self control.
And self control can only last so long with when it comes to this cant it?
What goes in must come out.
In the PARA's (i dont expect you to know what that is being in your highly skilled profession) they eat biscuits to stop them poo'ing (temp. blocks the intestine) and do you know why that is Oldernotwise?
I will give you a clue, its to do with self control.
and she didnt say she needs to pop to the loo all the time did she?0 -

Yeah I'm a mug, earning far more money than you! Your post smacks of jealousy. It's not me that is the mug....
Re: Toilet breaks. On an average day I get an opportunity to go to the loo at 8.30am, 11am, 12.30 and 3.10. At any other time, I cannot go to the toilet or leave my workspace.
I got used to it. I didn't think I would!0 -

Try explaining that to oldbutnotwise in his superior than anyone else's high profile job!0 -

and judging by your post i would say your a mug yes, being told as and when you can and cant go toilet, Hmmmmm great job if you happen to have diarrhea 1 day like people do.
What would you !!!!!! yourself for your boss yes?0 -

To you, in the first instance. In the second instance, those people discussing toilet breaks.
I wasn't implying you were jealous of me, I was implying you were jealous of 'highly trained pen pushers'. Although, seeing as you asked, I'm assuming I earn more than you, because you seem a bit stupid, perhaps have an attitude problem and are therefore incapable of attracting a higher wage job.
....You did ask!0
